Shut up or die…Shock jock Grant Mazzy (McHattie) has been kicked-off the airwaves and now works at a small-town morning show. Another mundane day on the job quickly turns deadly when reports pile in of people developing strange speech patterns and evoking brutal acts of violence. Before long, Mazzy discovers that the behavior is actually a deadly virus being spread through language. Does he stay on the air in hopes of being rescued or, is he providing the virus with its ultimate leap over the airwaves and into the world?

There's a lot more to this one than meets the eye, and that's what I love so much about it.

People spouting off what they've heard over the radio without thought as if some mindless zombie..think about it. What happens when people no longer think for themselves..when thought it nothing more than regurgitated lines heard from someone else? Media eating into the brains of the mindless masses until they become obeisant.

"The word is now a virus. The flu virus may have once been a healthy lung cell. It is now a parasitic organism that invades and damages the central nervous system. Modern man has lost the option of silence. Try halting sub-vocal speech. Try to achieve even ten seconds of inner silence. You will encounter a resisting organism that forces you to talk. That organism is the word."

I really enjoyed this unique approach to the genre. Great performances by the two leads.

This was really good, but im not sure if I 100% understood the story. It was rather disturbing though, and I liked the unique approach they took to the zombie genre.

The build up and suspense was amazing. The characters led by Grant were funny, believable and interesting to watch. I don't know if I loved how the virus was transmitted but I atleast give them points for originaility. It being set in the winter is also a nice touch. As far as the negatives go the movie lost a lot of it's steam in the second half due to the introduction of a rather annoying character that took me out of it. Also some of the exposition got a tad bit confusing for me. That being said it's a great slow burn and a worthy enough watch.

Glad you enjoyed it for the most part! I love the characters (aside from Mendez or whatever his name is XD) and how flat out CREEPY some parts were. And is it just me or did the younger girl resemble Anna Faris at least a little bit? >_>

^ I agree completely<3. She was my second fave next to Grant, though the other woman comes VERY close behind her. Great little trio, they were. :)

I love the approach. I love the execution. The delivery. The social commentary.

Words are deadly. Much more so than sticks and stones.

They enter our minds. Exit our breath. Stalk us as targets. Mangle our thoughts.

"To is a preposition; come is a verb" ~ Lenny Bruce

I love each character. Even Dr. Mendez. Just not as much as the other three lead characters.

I liked this movie. The idea of a purely mental zombie plague spread through language is a very interesting idea, and given how Canada's bilingualism factored into the ending (only francophone soldiers could safely fight the zombies), I wonder how much it being a Canadian film might have influenced its creators. Definitely one I should check out again.
