Seized by the government and converted into a military mental hospital during World War II, the sudden arrival of disturbed soldiers to Eel Marsh Harsh has awoken its darkest inhabitant. Eve, a beautiful young nurse, is sent to the house to care for the patients but soon realizes she must save them from more than their own demons. Despite Eve’s efforts to stop her, one by one they fall victim to the Woman in Black.

Ugh, it's playing in three different theaters but none of them are having 3:00 pm showings.

So this has made only $17,509,105 domestically so far. Box Office Mojo doesn't even have the totals for other countries. (wary)

To make it scary, the first made $127,730,736 worldwide.

I'm seeing this Tuesday evening, most likely.

I really enjoyed the first but I found this one to be a letdown. Insanely dull and not as captivating as the original. Still worth a watch, but I doubt I'll ever watch it again.

Surprisingly, I liked it more than Keon did! (lol) While the first is definitely the stronger, more atmospheric of the two, I still thought this was pretty entertaining. Not sure why, but it actually felt like it moved at a FASTER pace than the first did. I love the brown-ish look that certain locations had and how they changed things up when it came to the overall look of the movie. What I do NOT like is that they changed the look of Eel Marsh House as well. In my opinion, they should've kept that place looking dark, black, blue, and forboding while making all other locations look vibrant and normal. It would've hammered home the creepy, evil feel of that place.

The characters here were actually better than those in the first. I especially loved Eve, Harry, and Jean Hogg; all of which had pretty strong backstories (plane crash, childbirth, soldiers to sum them up). I didn't really care for the kids all that much but Edward didn't annoy me as much as I expected him to. His story was pretty interesting too and while somewhat predictable, never became STUPID, lol. There were a few overly slow, quiet scenes that built up to a quick scare and nothing more, but oh well. Such is common in these movies nowadays and even the first had some bits like that. *Shrug*

The deaths here weren't as "woah" as the deaths in the first, and oddly enough, the bodycount was only ONE THIRD of the bodycount of the first film. Pretty strange considering the fact that there were eight kids and half a dozen adults at their...disposal. (chew) I loved the bit with the red string and the following gas mask scene. I wish we'd scene the razorwire death but it probably would've been 'too much' for some people if they had been graphic with that. Oh well.

The ending was a bit ho-hum and I was disappointed that

The story itself was mostly good, though nothing too original. It handled the time period well. The weakest thing was that since the first film explored the backstory of the house and its past inhbitants SO much, they really didn't have much to explain here. Pity.

Overall, it was better than expected but still nothing great.

6.5/10 quality. 6-7/10 entertainment

Not even a fifth of what the first film made. Tragic start to 2015.

Not surprised I guess. Film was a complete bore so the word of mouth probably wasn't all that.

I want to blame all the theaters dropping the matinees the second week. The only people I could talk into going with me were senior citizens, and they don't go to movies after dark when they don't get as much of a discount.

Sadly seems like we probably won't get a third. If we did I'd want them to inject a new life into the whole thing. The second tried to replicate the first slow and terrifying atmosphere but failed, so for the third I think they go all out and just make it extremely entertaining.

As in turn this into a dumb-fun slasher? No thanks. We have enough "fun" movies out there. I'd rather they keep this serious if they make a third film. I don't get why you hate this so much yet you kiss the makers of the first film's feet even though that was a lot slower paced than this was, for me anyway.

It's not about being slow, it's about holding my interesting and scaring me. The second didn't do that. They tried, bless their hearts, but they just didn't entertain me like they did with the original.

That's because you wanted the same kind of entertainment that the original gave. (troll) This wasn't supposed to directly copy the first though I do wish they'd spiced things up even more.

Helen Mccroy was superb as the older firm school mistress, I really loved her character and thought she came off great as the stern wife of a military leader. The main actress in the film, Pheobe Fox, was great and did the best she could with what she was given. They tried very hard to be atmospheric and it worked for the most part. The scares however just weren't there and there were times where I just found my mind going to other places while the action on screen played out. To me there just wasn't any "juice" or "motivation" going on, the story was thin and the scares were extremely light. Not trash and not even a bad film, just a dull one.

Well at least you're not being as hard on it now as you were before! ;) I agree that the story was a bit too thin. The characters themselves had interesting stories but the first film revealed so much about the house and the events that caused the haunting to start that this had nowhere to go but forward.

I read that it lost almost half of the theaters that were showing it between the second and third weeks, so I guess it wasn't just around me.

There is a conveniently titled cash-in that I can't be bothered to make a thread for. I like that the lady is even wearing white on the cover.
