Horror Quote Of The Moment

Welcome to Under The Morgue.

We have sections for each decade of film, from the 1910s onward, as well as sections for 10+ major franchises, close to 50 'smaller' franchises (containing five entries or less), creative writing, independent filmmaking, photography, music, Non-Horror films and TV shows, forum games, and boredom busters, and to top it all off there's an IM shoutbox at the bottom of the page for random chat. From the tame and 'kid sister friendly' to the psychological and mindbending to cheesy splatter flicks to hardcore torture-oriented horror, there's something here for everyone, so why not dive in?

I like the breathe poster. I might would see this depending if it's not just nonstop extreme torture and actually has some suspense.

Besides some insane editing, it doesn't have much suspense. It's actually very disappointing from the hype.

This might appeal to someone who's into "art" films. As a conventional movie, I'd easily give this a 1 out of 5 for being little more than plotless torture porn in the most literal sense. But I don't think this was the kind of movie that was meant to be "enjoyed". Something tells me that, if you enjoyed watching this, then there is something wrong with you.

I'm not familiar with this one. Out of curiosity, what do the bunny ears have to do with it..?

Neither have I. I keep hearing so many mixed things about it that I'm really not sure if I should spend my time on it.

It's not the worst movie ever. See it once just if you come across some horror fans who are like "OMGZ $O D!STURBINGZZ!!!11!". I liked most of the first half because of the way it flowed and the editing but it just sucked after that. I'd give it a 3/10.

This is an incredibly unique film to study rather than watch. From the perspective of a gender studies lens, this is a fantastically-unique piece of work to analyze. All of the torture in the movie is real, as we all know, and that adds to the concept of female pain and torture in horror exponentially. And you can also study it from a psychoanalytical lens when you think about the fact that Rodleen Getsic chose to let herself get tortured, and how a lot of the moments were HER idea as an actress, not the director's. It really makes you wonder what goes through the woman's head to want to make something like this.

The film itself isn't anything groundbreaking, despite it's controversy. It's not a bad film, and there are some things that are absolutely terrifying, performance-wise in particular, and there are some great alternate endings out there for it, but the film itself is nothing special.

It's still definitely worth watching for the sake of studying and analyzing from a critical lens standpoint.

Nah, it really isn't.

Getsic's back story is that she was brutally raped in real life. This film, she's said, was her way of taking back her female power while also commenting on female empowerment in general. But intent means nothing when whatever message or statement she and the filmmakers were planning to make is lost in the aggressively exploitative nature of the acts they put on film. You can take a picture of a cold turd on a paper plate and call it an exploration of man's dual Dyonisian/Apollonian nature, but that doesn't change the fact that it's still just a picture of a turd on a paper plate.

Yes, Getsic was not only okay with being orally raped and beaten and burnt and everything else, but she actually encouraged it. Did the director or male lead put up a fight? Did they say, "No, this only a movie, there's no reason to submit yourself to genuine harm, we can deliver our message just as effectively through simulated rape and torture instead of the real thing"? Nope. They both went right along with it and thrrew themselves into it (as the director himself stated in an issue of Fangoria). So you have a film starring a woman who encourages people to hurt her on film, directed by and co-starring men who happily oblige her. You don't need a degree in psychology to know she's a masochist, her director and co-star are sadists, and they decided to put it on film.

This isn't an art film or a gender study or a comment on female powerment or any kind of message movie, and it doesn't contain anything worth studying or analyzing (unless you're a budding sadist, masochist, or both, and are looking for tips on how to get started). Whatever the intent of the film, the exploitative approach they took has resulted in nothing more than a grungy, ugly torture/porn flick, only this one doesn't fake its selling points.

Puppy, just because there's no evidence she killed her aunt doesn't make her dating material.

I still might see this out of morbid curiosity but yeah, I'm...kind of not expecting too much from this when it comes to artistic flair besides some cool camera shots or...whatever. (wary)

This seems like one of those movies that has torture that will only be worth sitting through if there's a great bit of revenge/chasing/whatever at the end. Otherwise, I'd just be sitting there watching a woman with no chance of survival get brutalized for 90 minutes. I don't care for that, honestly. I love things like I Spit On Your Grave and similar rape/revenge films because, well, the horrible rape sequences and awful things the character(s) endure make the revenge all the sweeter and oh so satisfying, lol.

Like I said, I'll watch this eventually but there's probably a reason I haven't seen it yet.
