Refusing to let anything spoil their romantic weekend break, a young couple confront a gang of loutish youths with terrifyingly brutal consequences.
This is one of my all-time favorite horror flicks, and my favorite foreign horror movie of all-time. It is brutal, gripping, gut-wrenching, and extremely suspenseful. This movie shows this that I thought movies weren't even allowed to show in so much detail, which is part of why it was so effective. If you like human-based horror movies, and you want to see a movie that has the balls to show certain types of things, without giving any spoilers, watch this.

What an amazing horror film. So brutal and gritty. I picked up the Blu-Ray of this recently.

This should be in the foreign section.
Anyways, this film is fantastic. Definitely raw and brutal. Kelly Reilly made a great lead.

I'll have to merge them then, now won't I?
Spoiler: click to toggle Watched this for the first time roughly two days ago expecting a GOOD film at best, but ended up watching one of the best films of the past decade (to me anyway). Michael Fassbender and Kelly Reilly gave fantastic performances and the same can be said for pretty much everyone else in the film. Yes, everyone. Even the waitress who got all defensive and was all "They're not MY kids." toward the beginning, haha. The cinematography was beautiful, as was the location (and Kelly Reilly...and Michael Fassbender's body, UNF...but I won't go further with that, ha). The annoyances at the beginning were rather discomforting and effective. I've been in the position of the two leads many, many times (people doing things to piss me off and I have no choice but to either ignore it and have my day ruined, or leave and look like a pussy). The car theft reeeally got my blood boiling and made me completely hate the teens (?). The death of the dog actually made me feel sorry for the ringleader for a few minutes. Poor Bonnie lol. After that though, I lost pretty much ALL sympathy for them when the real attacks began. The barbed wire...the stabbings being captured on Paige's phone...the spike through the foot...gah. All of that was rather painful to watch. Jenny was a very smart heroine, though some of her efforts ended up falling flat. Hiding on top of the roof of that construction building and hiding Steve under the leaves and branches so he wouldn't slow her down and the two of them hiding under the shack above the swamp water and her hiding in the dumpster with the map were all very intelligent on her part. His wounds...ouch, fuck, ew, shit, painful and real looking. I'd be lying if I said it didn't make me cringe and shudder a bit. Now onto the deaths. Steve being burned after his death was pretty upsetting and I love that the teens commented on the smell of his burning flesh, something that characters in most other Horror films don't do. Adam's death was HORRIFYING even though it was one of the least graphic of the film. The sound of his screams as his head was lit on fire and he inhaled the fire...urgh. Chilling to say the least. Paige's death was a bit dull I guess but was still a great "WOAH! HA!" moment. That bitch deserved worse though. A lot worse. Cooper's death may have been the most shocking of them all, a long, drawn out but not overly gratuitous bleeding-out moment in Jenny's arms. It was a solid scene that was a huge emotional whammy. Brett beating the next teen was interestingly shot but failed to trigger much of a response from me, probably because the most unsettling, harsh deaths had already occurred and the beating was rather tame in comparison. Poor Jenny, running into relative after relative after relative in a seemingly endless string of bad luck, haha. When she got into the vehicle with the boy, who I assume was Cooper's brother, my heart sank. I knew either he was one of them or he was about to suffer a painful death at the hands of the teens. The escape and Paige's death followed, satisfying. Then came the crash and when Jenny reached the pool party, a part of me realized what was coming, and it was confirmed when I saw a womanwho looked VERY much like Paige, along with the Bonnie and Clyde dog dishes. Again, Jenny did the smart thing by going to the bathroom, away from all of the people but alas that wasn't enough and in one of the most divisive endings I've seen (a great example of how parents are often blinded by their own child's suffering to realize their child has caused harm that is far more severe) Jenny is taken away and in a moment that REALLY pissed me off, but did not take away from the film one bit, Brett deleted the recorded footage from the cellphone. I was furious, and to an extent I actually felt like my review of the film may be a NEGATIVE one before thinking about the ending for a long while and realizing that it was actually the PERFECT ending for this film. Anything else, from Jenny being miraculously rescued, Jenny killing ALL of her tormentors, or the parents turning on their kids to save Jenny...would've been a HUGE downfall for an otherwise fantastic film. Overall this movie was brilliant. Sure, it was not anything we haven't seen before in some way or another but the delivery and execution was top notch. Solid 9/10. Simply amazing.

Awesome film. Not one likeable character but I still felt empathy. Gruesome movie. Thoroughly enjoyed it, if that is the right word.

Awesome review, Fly. Gee you put yourself down in your profile when you said you're not very good at reviews. I think you should delete that bit. That's a great, very readable critique. Good job.

Couldn't agree more. I love simple yet effective posters such as that.
This film was much stronger and more upsetting than I had assumed it would be. It didn't make it sick or make me cry but man, did it wrench my gut with the best of them. Great (and painful) kills, a couple of memorable characters, and Ms. Reilly looking gorgeous as always. Solid, emotional and visceral film that is definitely worth checking out.

One of my favourite horror films.
Confrontational, brutal and very violent, but, most importantly, realistic and plausible. This is my type of horror.
