Refusing to let anything spoil their romantic weekend break, a young couple confront a gang of loutish youths with terrifyingly brutal consequences.

This is one of my all-time favorite horror flicks, and my favorite foreign horror movie of all-time. It is brutal, gripping, gut-wrenching, and extremely suspenseful. This movie shows this that I thought movies weren't even allowed to show in so much detail, which is part of why it was so effective. If you like human-based horror movies, and you want to see a movie that has the balls to show certain types of things, without giving any spoilers, watch this.

Order it online? :p

I keep seeing posts about this in Facebook groups I'm in. Seems the concensus is that the ending is a huge "oh goddamnit, urgh (un) " for most people.

This was a really hard one to get a view on, as there's parts that are just wonderful and some that are beyond maddening. Certainly, the storyline allows for a lot to like here, with the endless chasing around in the wilderness, getting scratched and cut up makes for some pretty intense situations, and a realistic series of confrontations in the later half is certainly enjoyable. That also delivers a ton of gore and some pretty brutal moments, which is certainly something to be applauded and the concept of what happens in them is certainly enjoyable. The main problem here is that nothing makes sense as to why it's going down as everyone has faulty motives for continuing onward, including staying around or even provoking the group and it's not really enjoyable to watch them attempt to make them so. That hurts it somewhat, but it's certainly enjoyable enough.

I guess I can see where you're coming from with the motives and all. That made me despise the killers even more though so I guess the makers accomplished their mission. (lol)

I'm not talking about the killers, I mean the couple themselves. They're some of the biggest idiots I've ever seen in a film, purposefully getting themselves into trouble merely for the sake of getting the plot going, and if it wasn't for their actions the movie wouldn't need to be done in the first place. Remember, after the first encounter on the lake they get in the car and drive back home and it's when they spot the car parked in the driveway that he decides to go sneak in and steal something for harassing them. They were free and clear, yet he does that for some lame-ass lesson they're not going to know the meaning of? Pure stupidity and one of the dumbest decisions ever by a character I've ever seen in a movie which is what sets this in motion anyway. To me that's what I was getting at, their actions and motivations that started everything.

This is perhaps the most angering horror film I've ever seen, and that includes Funny Games.

The ending is both brilliant yet absolutely fucking terrible. :/

I don't think the ending is terrible at all. (wary)

I adored this movie. The ending made me feel terrible and frustrated, but it didn't backtrack the love I had for it leading up to the end.

This was also Michael Fassbender before he got really famous, so huzzah! :D

Same here, I utterly hate the ending. Of course, the rest of it isn't that great but the ending in particular really makes it risible.

Still one of the most anger-inducing endings I've ever watched.

I am still to this day, nearly eight years later, shocked that they chose to end their movie like that. What a fuck you. Whether the characters were stupid or not.

Puppy, just because there's no evidence she killed her aunt doesn't make her dating material.

Holy shit. What a gritty-as-hell movie. I liked it a lot, but it certainly gets your blood boiling. Much in the same way Funny Games does. Man, oh, man.

Well, I mean, yeah. I hated all the kids.
