The residents of a rural mining town discover that an unfortunate chemical spill has caused hundreds of little spiders to mutate overnight to the size of SUVs. It's then up to mining engineer Chris McCormack and Sheriff Sam Parker to mobilize an eclectic group of townspeople, including the Sheriff's young son, Mike, her daughter, Ashley, and paranoid radio announcer Harlan, into battle against the bloodthirsty eight-legged beasts.

I may give it a watch if it's on Netflix. I remember the trailer when it along side stuff like Clockstoppers (and maybe Kangaroo Jack) but never got to see it in the end.

Oh GOD I remember those movies! (lol) I wouldn't be surprised if I watched them around the same exact time as this when I was a kid.

^ Agreed! I always watch this when I'm feeling down, and it always manages to cheer me up. I love all the cartoony sounds the spiders make, especially the groan the trapdoor spider makes at one point.

I have this on DVD, so I ought to watch it some time.

It's odd now that the teenage daughter in this went on to be the biggest star out of the entire cast.

This is a wonderful throwback to 50s monster movies. I LOVE giant spiders, and this movie was so epic.

So much fun.

And I love that the title came from an ad-lib on David Arquette's part! XD

I used to watch this movie A LOT on tv when I was a kid. It brings back so much memories when I'd always catch it on HBO. It's just a fun B-movie.

This is definitely worth stealing (and buying). Can't believe I don't already have it and that I haven't seen it since like 2008, lol.

How much is your bid for?

I'd say just buy an iTunes release version, but you'd be missing an awesome short film on it the director's made that's in black and white and in the style of 50s monster movies. I would've loved to see it turned into a full movie, itself.

Larger Than Life was awesome.

I need to rewatch my DVD of this movie. It's definitely a cool movie. It definitely feels like a 50s spider monster movie. It's pretty grand.

This one here was a highly-enjoyable effort.

Most of this here is due to the film's rather goofy atmosphere, which comes from comes from the good old glorious creature-feature fun that's featured throughout this one. The film is mostly done with an old-school spirit and a lot of cheese, and the fact that some of it's good gives this one some of it's better scenes here in the manner of how the spiders not only get mutated and then later escape from their lab, their running around the outskirts of town grabbing animals and the rather fun encounters where the creatures hit the different home of the residents.

These here are balanced out incredibly well by the film's other high-impact style of action here with the genuinely exciting and thrilling encounters with the extended dirt-bike chase that's one of the film's highlights with the creatures jumping onto the bikers and the really frantic chase that emerges from the scene, the family's charge into town that goes from the spiders' appearance at their house and the gunfight to get away as well as arriving in town itself which is the kind of cheesy action-packed goodness found in most monster movies where the creature's rampage across the city attacking townspeople in great attacks or surprise shock scenes in a huge, extended sequence leading into even more thrilling action afterwards.

There's a lot of great work here in the spiders coming inside to get them forcing a wholly exciting series of action scenes inside the mall and down underground which really goes for the grand extended scenes of the group trying to get through the massive cobwebbed tunnels with the spiders chasing them and leading into the last big attempt at finishing them off which really works quite well in it's uniqueness and explosive action. That it features a lot of action makes for a fun time, and alongside the cheesy antics gives this one a lot to really like.

Although these here do work, it does have a couple of minor flaws, stemming mainly from the fact that while it may work it's cheesiness to great effect some of it not so much as it can be too silly for it's own good. The creatures here are threatening only in their size and proclivity towards attacking people, though every other facet about them might be more troubling with their comedic screams and cries while attacking making this quite cheesy overall.

Beyond that, their CGI-laden creation makes for some rather troubling times with their inherently fake look and sheer static-filled appearance looking quite ridiculous at times and readily contributing to an overall cheesy feature. The last flaw here is the film's rather surprising ease which it demonstrates all the different species here working together as a whole at hunting them down since it's stated several times about the different species being together yet there's nothing about why as several of the species shouldn't work together. There's a lot to like, even though it does need work in a few areas.
Do illiterate people get the full effect of alphabet soup?

Some people are like slinkies: not good for anything, but you can't help but laugh when one falls down the stairs.
