![]() Strange things are happening in Riverdale, Illinois. A huge, seemingly alien structure has been found jutting out of the earth. Sent to investigate the origin of the mysterious object, Senator Walter Powers discovers that parasites from the center of the earth have infiltrated the town, taking control of the authorities and workers, making communication with the outside world impossible, and leaving the responsibility of stopping the invasion up to Powers and a small group of free individuals. |

Well this got violent about thirty seconds in after a somewhat ominous mini-monologue. The opening credits were pretty cool for such an old movie; a lot better than all of the "credits play over one picture" sort of credits I've seen lately. Poor random Spoiler: click to toggle I liked the narration. "Fiery horse drawn chariot in the sky", eh? For a film that was shot in only six days (!) this actually wasn't so bad. It looked pretty good, the performances weren't terrible, and it wasn't unbearably cheesy (though some parts - such as those deliciously cheesy parasites - were pretty laughable). The "mayor's" freakout was a bit unexpected and effective. I really liked that the parasites could be Spoiler: click to toggle I liked Paul, Elaine, and Alice. That bed thirty eight minutes into it looked pretty comfy. The operator ("I'm sorry sir, that line is busy....I'm sorry sir, that line is busy") scene was *almost* creepy. Ed Nelson was really hot in this. Alice was Spoiler: click to toggle The cast was pretty big so I feel that they could've killed off a couple more of the characters, but it was still a nice surprise that they had the balls to Spoiler: click to toggle Overall, this was pretty fun.4/10 quality, 7/10 entertainment. |

This one wasn't all that great but is certainly worthwhile. The big thing with it is the fact that the film is not even an hour long, so it's got major problems already in trying to cram enough material that actually works in a decent, full-length release into a shorter amount of time, rushing along through everything despite their being no need to do so, cutting down the action to a few brief inserts that are fun but definitely could've been stretched out, a totally pointless narration running over everything that doesn't need to be there and several other rather big problems that really don't help to elevate it's 50s Sci-Fi origin, admittedly fun suspense in the part of who's under the spell and who isn't and what happens once the creatures are loose, which is barely explored but could've been good. Overall, this one was fine but had a lot of problems going for it. |

Do illiterate people get the full effect of alphabet soup? Some people are like slinkies: not good for anything, but you can't help but laugh when one falls down the stairs. My review blog: http://donshorrormovieblog.blogspot.com/ | |
