![]() When alien vampires terrorize London, it's up to a determined police inspector and an astronaut to stop them. American and British space travelers discover humanoids while exploring near Halley's Comet. The astronauts bring three of these aliens aboard their spaceship and head back to earth. However, their guests turn out to be evil vampires who kill all but one of the astronauts -- Carlsen. After the ship arrives in London, the monsters -- led by a beautiful female -- escape and wreak havoc throughout the city, transforming humans into zombies. Meanwhile, the surviving astronaut and Caine, a determined police inspector, frantically try to track down the creatures, and destroy them. But the "Space Girl" has a strange hold over Carlsen, and he has trouble fighting the urge to join her. |

One of Hooper's best. Loosely based on the novel THE SPACE VAMPIRES. Steve Railsback and Patrick Stewart kiss. Long story. |

This here turned out to be quite an entertaining if slightly flawed effort. One of the main issues is the fact that this one is quite a bit longer than necessary, it's running time dragged out by the inclusion of scenes that really serve no purpose being there to begin with or simply taking far too long to get it's point across when some streamlining could've been incredibly beneficial. Take five to ten minutes off this one and it's golden, if it would've bothered to answer several rather important questions within that would've helped make this one more enjoyable, one of which is even voiced by a character in the film which is never a good sign. There's still a lot to like here with plenty of exciting, grandiose action scenes that really work well, including the vampires' initial escape from the facility, a dash across the English countryside to corral the creature and some high-scale scenes of city destruction in the finale that offers more of a science-fiction spectacle that horror-based thrills. Still, the creature's continuous threat and historical significance played into their back-story are nice touches overall, and when matched with some nice gore bits and continuous nudity from those well-able to provide it makes for a pretty entertaining effort. |

Do illiterate people get the full effect of alphabet soup? Some people are like slinkies: not good for anything, but you can't help but laugh when one falls down the stairs. My review blog: http://donshorrormovieblog.blogspot.com/ | |

This is the one that got a special edition from Scream Factory, right? It sounds good but I'm not sure if I want to blind buy it. It is pretty long (1 hour 56 minutes) but I won't mind that as long as it doesn't drag too much. |

Trust me, you'll be fine. The nudity and action will hold you over like it did me. |

You were totally right about that, haha. This was a total blast. It's not Hooper's best (though it beats a lot of the films he directed after this one) and it's a bit of a mess at times, but it's a lot of fun, has more than enough action, deaths, and general craziness. I loved the main villain (she was sexy, disturbing, creepy, and intimidating in equal amounts which is always nice) and a few of the 'good guys.' Some of the effects were a bit on the cheesy side but I kind of expected that going into it and I ended up not being too distracted or taken out of the movie because of the effects. This was a cheesy-at-times 80s scifi/horror movie about sexually charged space vampires - it's pretty much a given that it won't be perfect. My big complaint is that they didn't focus on the two male humanoid vampire things enough. They had one big scene and that was it. Sure, we got some cool transformations and A LOT of really awesome scenes with the main female vampire-thing but it would've been even better if they had spotlighted the guys. They were almost as attractive as she was too. ![]() I also don't think this needed to be two full hours long. It wasn't boring but sometimes it slowed down a LITTLE bit and I feel like they could've cut about fifteen minutes from it to give it the super quick pace that it feels like the makers were going for a lot of the time. The dialogue wasn't bad, the action setpieces were mostly satisfying, and it was really cool seeing a (younger) Patrick Stewart and Steve Railsback in this. Their characters were among my favorites (though that COULD be because I like both actors a lot already) but this had some really fun minor characters too. I also liked that it didn't just stick to one or two locations the entire time. For some reason, I expected this to mostly be on a space station or something which would've been nice and all but the fact that it took place on Earth made it stand out from some of the other 80s scifi/horror movies I've seen over the last few months. It almost reminded me of Species except a little bit better. Not a masterpiece by any means but it's really entertaining, action packed, Steve Railsback was rather handsome in the 80s, and it's certainly worth seeing at least once. i'm kind of glad I didn't take the risk of buying the Scream Factory bluray though since that bitch is going for like forty bucks. Maybe someday though, since I plan on seeing this at least one or two more times. 5.5/10 quality, 7.5/10 entertainment. |

I'm so glad I finally got to see this one. I kind of wish I saw the uncut version instead of the one with all the studio interference, but any version is fine by me at this point. Having not been able to see any copy of it for so long. The Space Girl is unbelievably attractive. Yowzah! You can tell this is a Dan O'Bannon script. I love it. The movie is hokey in spots, but I love most if not all of the special effects in this. The exposition is a little wonky. I wouldn't mind rewatching this a few more times. I have no idea as to why that may be.
