An ominous darkness invades a seemingly serene sunflower farm in North Dakota, and the Solomon family is torn apart by suspicion, mayhem and murder. Edited by MonkeyParadise, Nov 17 2013, 08:55 PM.

It was pretty good. It's been a while since I've seen it all, but I caught bits and pieces maybe a month ago (?) when it was on TV. Dylan McDermott and Kristen Stewart were perfectly cast here. |

It was a good little scare I guess you can say. Kristen did a good job, the effects were nice, and it had a perfect timing of scares and jumps. As well as great suspense. Give it a watch. Avoid the horrid sequel though.

Though I can't see a poster, the plot looks decent. |

I thought this was pretty decent. It could have been more unique, but it is a good option if you're in the mood for something a bit routine. The cast works well together. It has a pretty nice atmosphere, too. |

This is one of those movies I've heard about, found on DVD for super cheap, found online for free, and so on but never watched. Pretty sure I'll be watching it this year...if I don't forget. |

Overall, this is certainly quite a decent if slight troubling effort. Perhaps the best element at play here is the fact that there's some genuinely creepy and chilling moments from the ghosts throughout this. There's several attack here which are downright creepy, including the main one which opens the film because it all happens in front of the kid, but moreso later efforts like the attack in the basement when she's supposedly babysitting the brother where the approaching ghost flips around furniture to the point of a haunted house movie as well as a secondary scene in the house when she's all along are lengthy, involved scenes that are incredibly chilling. They manage to work around the rather cliché notions of the child being the only one capable of noticing such activities until it's too late so this one can make a rather enjoyable finale when it finally throws it back to them with the wonderfully fun and enjoyable finale that makes for a great time. That said, there are still quite a few flaws here as this one tends to feature so many scenes that just don't mean anything. The first half to this features the rather lousy subplot about her troubled past coming into play which are just part of the problems that this section has as this doesn't really do anything really special with this storyline and really causes this one to seem quite bland and repetitive focusing on such insignificant places without anything worthwhile. Alongside this incessantly lame plot line is an overuse of the family adjusting to farm- life and being out in the wilderness, so what happens here is just insanely boring and not really doing much of anything. Setting up the plants, learning the equipment and it's functions and greeting the locals really isn't all that interesting as these just get dragged out endlessly to make the attacks all the more child-like by taking out all the violence and intensity that would normally be found here so this one contains a lot of boring, useless scenes that set-up quite a tame, direction-less style that that hurts more than helps it. |

Do illiterate people get the full effect of alphabet soup? Some people are like slinkies: not good for anything, but you can't help but laugh when one falls down the stairs. My review blog: http://donshorrormovieblog.blogspot.com/ | |

I expected more from the guys who made The Eye, but this was a good ghost horror flick. It proves that Kristen Stewart is actually not a bad actress. She did pretty darn good with some of the intense scenes, such as the "please, I'm not making this up" scene. |

This was actually a pretty good ghost house thriller with a surprisingly good cast. Movies like this are the reason I still believe Kristen Stewart CAN act with emotions, even through all the flack she had received from the Twilight movies. Remember, it was NOT the actors' faults (esp. Robert Pattinson as well) for Twilight, it was just the script and source book that faulted them, they had to have known they were making something atrocious but tried their best with the material (although I will say that I really like Billy Burke as Chief Charlie Swan, he was possibly the one character I had actually cared for, I'd love to see a spin-off of him going through everyday life as police chief and father). But still, K.S. here shows expressions of frustration, guilt, terror, and spine-tingling fear, so yea I'd say she did pretty good in this film. And the mystery plot is at least interesting, as it provides clues that eventually comes together to set up a big twist which I won't spoil here, but it is intriguing to sit through. And it also has Dylan McDermott who is good in anything he shows up in, and even John Corbett as a friendly vagrant who is invited into their home to help the family with their sunflower sowing, but also holds a very dark secret within him that Spoiler: click to toggle And oddly enough, William B. Davis (or the Cigarette Smoking Man from the X-Files) shows up in this film as a real-estate agent who warns the family of a possible foreclosure on their house,And also Fun Fact: This film had actually began life as a spec script by Todd Farmer (who also write Jason X, My Bloody Valentine 3D and Drive Angry), titled 'The Scarecrow', which was more of a psychological horror, Farmer even described it as "the horror version of A Beautiful Mind", but the studio wanted it to me more like "The Shining on a farm", thus resulting in the final film we have now. But ironically, this film has a direct-to-video prequel titled Messengers 2: The Scarecrow (which starred Norman Reedus), which had actually used Farmer's original Scarecrow script albeit with minor changes to the third-act to retain the previous film's supernatural elements. |
