Left for dead on a sun-scorched planet, Riddick finds himself up against an alien race of predators. Activating an emergency beacon alerts two ships: one carrying a new breed of mercenary, the other captained by a man from Riddick's past.

I haven't seen a trailer for it, but I'm sure it's not that bad.

I haven't seen them either Kitty so I'll probably just wait for this to arrive on DVD/BluRay so I can have a triple feature or something.

That's probably what I'll do, only Riddick is currently on the big screen, so I might just catch it. If not, I'll wait for the DVD.

Great direction and some brutal kills. I really enjoyed it along with the characters. There was some snazzy dialogue and decent acting here.

My favorite line "I don't fuck guys- But I do fuck them up occaisionaly when they need it."

Don't know what happened, but I missed it on the big screen. Like it never happened. So I'll have to wait about 6 months for the DVD. At least I have the other two on DVD.

This is pretty good, though I would still like a more direct sequel to CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK. This feels more like it wants to be PITCH BLACK again.

Katee Sackhoff is pretty hot, even though she plays this apparent lesbian who could probably kick my ass. lol

I didn't like it nearly as much as Pitch Black, but I thought this was pretty good. It would be nice if there was more momentum with the overall story other than just the stuff in the expanded edition on the DVD, but I like Riddick more in small R-rated doses. I thought it looked rather good for what it cost.

Overall this one was quite enjoyable if somewhat problematic. The biggest thing going for this one is the fact that there's quite a bit of frenetic action throughout this that really manages to make this one quite interesting, starting from the opening trials against the creatures there from the scorpion-tailed beings to the wild dogs and all the other creatures found on the surface which really sets this one up nicely. The dealings with the mercenary's are just as much fun with the cat-and-mouse hunting games coming along nicely although they do slow the action down somewhat since he never really gets to be utilized all that well with him basically just being as stealthy as he can without trying to draw suspicion onto himself so there's not as much of that once they come into the mix. Still, the final battle of the group trying to get off the rock alive and are forced into a series of gun-battles against the creatures makes for quite an enjoyable time with this one really getting the fun out and letting loose with a rather intriguing abandon that makes for a fun time here. The fact that the pace slows down for the plot does seem to cause this one some problems, though there's a few others here that do stick out including the nature of the films' action. It all seems geared to let him win out every time out so there's absolutely no suspense at all generated from any of the encounters because he's going to survive, and even at the finale when it would've been quite appropriate to kill him off there's a ridiculously shoehorned rescue scene that really doesn't belong here and just makes this all the more egregious in letting him win. The CGI doesn't do it much favors either in just sticking out like a really terrible sore thumb as well with just about all the creatures here being quite obvious about their creation due to the blurry lines and constant size-changes throughout their scenes which just underscore how obvious it all is. Otherwise, there's not a whole lot really wrong here.

I agree with Vanessa. I was surprised that this had a MUCH smaller budget than The Chronicles Of Riddck since this actually looked better. The locations felt a lot like the Pitch Black locations and the stoy was even similar in some ways, which I really liked. It pairs with that film quite nicely even if it isn't AS good (I'm honestly torn between which I prefer - all I know is that Chronicles is my least favorite). I loved all of the new aliens/monsters they introduced in this. Those scorpion-ish water monsters were pretty damn scary. The dogs were also intimidating but adorable in a way, especially since one of them teamed up with Riddick in a subplot that gave this a pretty sweet I Am Legend-esque feel at times. I really liked seeing Riddick on his own, which was surprising since I wasn't sure I would. The two groups of mercs were also great though I was VERY disappointed that we only had two female characters (and one barely even counts since

). We had 12 men and 2 women. Shouldve been 10 men, 4 women at least. (un)

The deaths here were the best of the three films imo. Bear traps, impalements, a nice blade-chop (think Monica's death in Dawn '04 but with a machete), and an even nicer bit involving a head being split in half with a blade. This got pretty nasty and I loved it.

Some of the characters were pretty awesome as well. Riddick was great as always and I think I actually liked him the most here. Santana was deliciously douchey and made this pretty entertaining at times, Johns was pretty good as well and did a good job of moving the story forward (and I liked him more than his son), Luna was really fucking hot but that's all I can really say about him (
Spoiler: click to toggle
), I liked Moss but he needed more screentime as well (I loved seeing Bokeem outside of The Sopranos though), Dahl was pretty badass and I loved that we had a lesbian co-lead (though the sexual stuff with Riddick was just random since, well she's a lesbian).

Overall this was enjoyable and much better than the 2nd film. I'm sort of glad this did a great job of setting up where the fourth will go but at the same time I'm annoyed since I have a feeling the 4th will be a lot like Chronicles. Meh. :P

6.5/10 quality. 8/10 entertainment.

Indeed, the call-backs to the original were quite enjoyable and the hyped-up action with the creatures in the first half does make for a rousing time in that section, but where did you hear there was a fourth part? I haven't heard anything.

I can see that happening, sort of tying up loose ends that the franchise has sort of way. Hopefully they'll realize what that did with Chronicles and stay more in like with Pitch and Riddick, the ones that are more enjoyable at least.
