Am I really the first one here who has seen this, one of the biggest moneymakers of the last couple years? ![]() I ended up being very impressed by this. On a technical level, I have NO complaints. None whatsoever. Even though the film was almost entirely CGI (no other way to do it without there being 'cheese factor') almost everything looked pretty real. The musical score was amazing and added a lot to the film, especially in the emotional scenes. The pacing got a little clunky at times but for the most part, it moved along pretty quickly (I actually wish it'd been longer; 91 minutes was way too short for me). The story was simple but contained lots of really cool techie elements that kept things interesting and it was nice how they incorporated an International Space Station, Chinese Tiangong, and the Soyuz modules. Plenty of awesome scenes happened involving those things (the two big destruction sequences are pretty breathtaking, and had me kicking myself for not seeing this in IMAX!) that had me satisfied. I just wish we'd gotten at least FIVE MINUTES inside of the Shuttle with the rest of the crew members. Yes, it's fie having only two lead characters to fight through the situation (surprisingly, it was actually better that way) but it would've been nice getting a few minutes with the rest of them. *Shrug* Small complaint. The acting was great. Clooney was...Clooney, I guess. It was an average performance of his and Kowalski was very likeable and funny while still grounded by the gravity (LOOK AT MY WIT, LOOK AT IT) of the situation. Stone was the spotlight here though. I loved her, even when she was in total pnic mode. Sure, astronauts shouldn't freak out like that but c'mon...it was her first flight and anyone who says they'd handle it better than she did (by the halfway mark she grew a pair and started dealing with things in a more put-together but still realistic fashion) are full of shit. End of story. I really felt for her and I loved how it was so uncertain what would happen to her and Kowalski. For the most part, I loved it which came as a HUGE surprise! 7.5-8.5/10 quality. 8.5/10 entertainment. |

Saw this earlier tonight. I usually HATE movies that take place in Space, and I was ready to be severely bored by this, but I actually liked it. Not at all a Sandra or Clooney fan, so I'm even more surprised. This movie also sealed my reasoning as to why I will never go to space, or understand anyone who WANTS to lol. |

YES! The "what if that were me?" factor was scarier and more overwhelming here than in a lot of Horror movies, haha. No way in HELL do I want to go to space now since the more I think about it, the more I realize I'd be beyond fucked in that situation. Glad you enjoyed it! And I'm surprised too. |

I'd just be like 'fuck it y'all' and remove my helmet or something. Gotta give the two lead characters a round of applause for handling it all better than pretty much anyone else on the planet would.

I need to see this again. I saw it outside with a small group of people on a big screen, which was pretty much perfect, but I ended up giving a scared kid a pep talk through most of it. |
