Two astronauts awaken in a hyper-sleep chamber aboard a seemingly abandoned spacecraft. It's pitch black, they are disoriented, and the only sound is a low rumble and creak from the belly of the ship. They can’t remember anything. Who are they? What is their mission? With Lt. Payton staying behind to guide him via radio transmitter, Cpl. Bower ventures deep into the ship and begins to uncover a terrifying reality. Slowly the spacecraft’s shocking, deadly secrets are revealed, and the astronauts find their own survival is more important than they could ever have imagined.

Yet another awesome and ferocious little movie from 2009! I just saw this for the first time last night after picking up the DVD from the flea market a few days ago. GREAT tension and suspense, three or four great characters (with my favorites being the lead guy who was VERY hot and sympathetic, the lone female of the group who was Mila Jovovich levels of badass, and the 'crazy' older guy that they all encountered), a couple of EXCELLENT kills (with the best being the third-to-last, OUCH!), pretty horrifying villains, appropriately grim tone, and one of my new favorite 'spaceship' settings. The twists toward the end were also pretty great. Definitely recommended. 8/10

This was visually striking and had a couple badass scenes and blahblahblah, but it really didn't stick with me. Only good for one watch imo.

Very well done - I adore Sci-Fi and 'Pandorum' is one of the most impressive films in this genre. The atmosphere is great

I liked it, but I was expecting it to be a bit better since I had been following it for a while

I had seen this at my local Drive-in with my Pops, and while we were a bit confused by the twists, we still did enjoy it no matter what. We loved the interior designs within the Elysium spaceship. And now years later, after having watched it more times on DVD, I can say that I love this movie, it's an underrated sci-fi survival horror film with a great cast, an intriguing mystery plot, and thought-provoking underlines. I love the premise of the ship being the only ship from a severely dying Earth ferrying 60,000 people on a 123-year journey (with no turning back) to a new earth-like planet to settle on, it gives it a Noah's Ark vibe to it, and it raises the stakes in the heroes having to set out to restart the ship's core reactor to ensure the ship stays intact (and hopefully reach its destination), while also having to fight through a horde of humanoid creatures lurking throughout the ship, relying on stealth/combat/surety. I'll always enjoy watching Dennis Quaid in anything he is in, a fantastic actor, and Cam Gigandet was good too as Gallo, I thought he was much better than he was as James in Twilight. But the twist involving Payton and Gallo, that I did not expect. But that was nothing compared to the final big twist:

THAT really shocked me when I first saw it, I was really wide-eyed when that happened (shocked) . It was almost as shocking as the final twist in Planet of the Apes.

But yes, this is, imo, a criminally-underrated spaceship horror movie - with elements of Lovecraftian horror and survival adventure - that relies on your full attention to catch everything in it, I'd really recommend it to anyone who likes watching these types of similar films. What's also ironically funny is that, this was produced by Paul W.S. Anderson, who is known for directing Event Horizon and Resident Evil, and with I seeing them now, I can somewhat see similarities between the three films. Actually, you could safely see Pandorum as a sort-of spiritual successor to Event Horizon.

And I feel I should note this for anybody who didn't understand it the word 'Pandorum' is mentioned in the film as being a nickname for a fictional cabin fever esque psychosis (coined as 'Orbital Dysfunctional Syndrome') that is caused by long-term deep space travel the astronauts have to endure. Symptoms are said to be emotional stress, paranoia, delirium and nosebleeding. It's even said, in flashback form, that a previous Eden starship mission had ended in failure because one of the crew members began to suffer from Pandorum, driving him to madness to the point where he actually "evacuated" the ship by launching its 5,000 passengers, in their life-pods, out into oblivion, to their slow deaths. So yes, 'Pandorum' does have a recurring importance that resonates throughout the film, when you watch the film you'll understand it better.

P.S., there are two easter egg tidbits I should mention about this film:

I've heard of failed attempts to make the film into a trilogy at one point; Allegedly 'Part 2' was said to be a prequel (described as a psychological thriller) showing Gallo's descent into madness from Pandorum and his becoming a "god" on the ship, with the ending leading directly to where the first film started at. And then 'Part 3' was to be a sequel (as more like a sci-fi action) focusing on Bower and Nadia having to set up colony on their new home-planet with the last remaining passengers, and possibly even battle the creatures from the first film, and maybe even a resurfaced Gallo (who was last seen submerged in the water that was pouring into the bridge). To be honest, I would've like to have seen these two follow-ups, just to see how they would've done it, but that's another hope-and-dream crushed thanks to the first film not having been financially successful. Shame. Such potential, wasted.

Also, this film was actually based on two different but similar scripts, one where the spaceship was actually a prison ship ferrying the worst criminals on Earth to another planet; the other script titled 'No Where' focused on four astronauts waking up from cryosleep with amnesia and trying to figure out who they are and what their mission is. And so the two scripts were married into what would become the film we now have.
