![]() Director Scooter McCrae turns the zombie genre on its head in the groundbreaking horror film Shatter Dead. The Angel of Death has descended to Earth, and upon impregnating a mortal woman the dead cease to die. Tormented at being stuck in a twilight zone between life and death, undead attempt to return to their normal lives and reconnect with the ones they loved while living. As the clash between the terrified living and the mournful dead elevates into an all out war, a mortal woman named Susan (Stark Raven) attempts to reconnect with her undead boyfriend and find some sanity in a world that is falling apart. |

I've seen it many times. It's actually a terrific little film, with a fresh, interesting approach to the zombie genre. All its weaknesses are purely budget-related; no money means cheap FX, less-than-professional acting and basically limits the director's ability to fullly execute his vision. But if you can look past the wooden acting and K-Mart gore FX, and get in tune with the spirit of the piece and listen to what McRae has to say about religion, love and sacrifice, this is quite a rewarding little film -- morose and nihilistic, but rewarding. Fair warning though: It does contain a graphic scene involving the lead actress's vadge and a pistol used as a penis. So this one is definitely not for the kiddies. |
