The story's set with police arriving at an abandoned gas station following a brutal massacre -- with the only evidence at the crime scene the victims' personal electronic devices, including a camcorder, flipcam, and two cell phones. With nothing else to go on, a detective must analyze the bits of found footage to piece together the identity of the killer.

Sounds like an interesting take on the found footage format.

Sounds like a slasher meets found footage. If done right this could be awesome.

Detectives Burquez and Reese are desperately hunting for answers as to why five people were brutally murdered at an abandoned gas station in the middle of the desert. The only evidence they have is captured video footage found on the victims' cameras and cell phones. As the mystery unfolds, it becomes chillingly clear that the killer is taunting the investigators, and the only way to end this bloody reign of terror is to decipher the deadly puzzle before he kills again.

So Robby and I watched this last night expecting it to just be a basic found-footage slasher. Nope, nope, and more nope. Instead, we got a rather suspenseful, twist-filled, gripping STORY of a handful of detectives investigating the footage (on two camcorders and multiple cellphones!) of what exactly happened to seven people in the Nevada desert after a violent bus crash. Among the seven are two best friends and the boyfriend of one of them, the driver of the bus, a woman on the run for an unseen crime, a woman on her way to deliver a present to her son, and a 16 year old runaway.
Unfortunately for them, their various personal conflicts are just the tip of the iceberg as one-by-one, two-by-two, and three-by-three they're violently attacked by a killer in a welder's outfit. Now, at least a day or two after the killing spree, at least one person has survived the killings to tell the tale, but the detectives aren't interrogating him/her. Instead, they're using the biggest piece of evidence they have: the footage left behind by the survivor(s) and victims.

Sounds simple? NOT AT ALL! There are close to a dozen twists in this bad boy and all seven people on the bus have some rather suspicious secrets of their own. Which one is the stowaway who wasn't even supposed to be on the bus? Are there multiple killers? HOW did the survivor get away? Was it a random attack or planned out? And most importantly; just how much of the footage is real and how much has been tampered with?

Those are some of the questions, as well as others that are answered (and Unanswered in some cases!) in this. The acting is really good, the kills are gruesome but not overly gory (two in particular are embedded in my head and will NOT be going away anytime soon, I'm sure), the found footage aspect is used in a variety of different ways from night vision, to broken lenses, to shaky-cam, to still shots, to bright lights, different angles, and so on. Strange, yes, but never got disorienting. As for the twists, I was floored by the fact that everytime I thought I'd figured out what was happening (at least five or six times, ha) BAM! Something else happened in the footage that completely changed my theories, expectations, and thoughts of the entire batch of characters.

VERY well done film that definitely deserved a theatrical release. I would've seen this bitch twice. 8.5/10

OH ALSO!
The opening credits, atmosphere, and setting = very refreshing, beautiful, unique and enjoyable. I dug the 'junkyard-esque' setting and the 'still shots', zooms, and epic music of the opening (that came back in the ending to tie it all together!!).

My one big complaint: I wish

VERY nice review! I've heard mixed opinions on this one, but most of the reviews I've read have had some kind things to say about it. I'm convinced after reading your review . . . gonna have to check it out soon . . . .

I have to agree with jon. This is an amazing movie. It really should've been theatrical release. I definitely don't have my doubts about handheld camera style anymore. It was done very well and used different types like night vision, stills, shakiness, etc like jon said. I agree with Jon about everything. All the characters were unique in their own way. I was so shocked about the different twists. I kept getting my predictions wrong and getting shocked the whole way. I loved the opening song and the setting was fantastic. The runaway and tyler is such cuties. I definitely recommend it. I agree the different cameras styles didn't bother me and it made me jump a few time due to glitches and random sht happening.

This is steadily becoming one of my all time favorites of the last 5-10 years the more I think about it. Amazing cinematography, perfect use of found footage, good acting, and is one of the best 'pieces of the puzzle' slasher/thriller combos to come around since the original Saw film. The various twists and turns of the story...holy Hell. <3.

I STILL can't get over the blowtorch kill which is easily the major centerpiece of this film. Holy fuck. VERY disturbing and shocking, and the best part of it is that when it happens you don't know WHO exactly is dying even though it's as in your face as it can be. Brilliant scene. Same goes for the bus-attack, initial bus 'accident', final attack, and the bathroom scene. Just...awesome.

Yep.
Official.
I love this movie.
Fantastic.
I wanna buy the DVD AND BluRay.
Separately if I have to. (lol)
