Welcome to Under The Morgue.

We have sections for each decade of film, from the 1910s onward, as well as sections for 10+ major franchises, close to 50 'smaller' franchises (containing five entries or less), creative writing, independent filmmaking, photography, music, Non-Horror films and TV shows, forum games, and boredom busters, and to top it all off there's an IM shoutbox at the bottom of the page for random chat. From the tame and 'kid sister friendly' to the psychological and mindbending to cheesy splatter flicks to hardcore torture-oriented horror, there's something here for everyone, so why not dive in?

Now this is interesting! A remake – and new franchise – of Sleepaway Camp might be around the corner! It’s also encouraging that Jeff Katz (the former New Line exec who helped bring Freddy Vs. Jason into focus) is involved, that guy seems to be passionate about horror and doing things the right way.

Per Deadline he’s “optioned remake rights from the original movie’s trio of makers and rights holders: Writer/director-turned-lawyer Robert Hiltzik, producer Michele Tatosian, and actress Felissa Rose, who starred in the 1983 pic as Angela, the bullied teen protagonist whose summer turns into a bloodbath when a killer begins offing campers.”

Hiltzik, Tatosian and Rose will produce alongside Katz, who apparently “aims to reboot the Sleepaway Camp mythos in a modern setting with a new film series that echoes its legacy and the psychosexual elements that made the first pic such a memorable cult favorite.”

That last sentence is the most encouraging of all! Let’s hope they can find a studio (or independent financier) that will let them keep it that way! More as this develops.

I was against a Sleepaway reboot but since they seem determined to keep the themes of the original series I'm a little bit curious. It can't be any worse than Return.

I didn't see this coming. I am surprised but worried at the same time. But It is great that they are keeping the theme of this.

Guess what this means though?

Hopefully this remake is a bit more on the serious side, with genuine suspense and so on. If they want to go the comedic route with 2 and 3 (like the original 2 and 3), so be it. I'd actually enjoy it. I just want one more serious one. Oh, and PLEASE people...don't try to make the twist ending surprising if youre gonna keep it the exact same. That'd be like if the Carrie remake from 2013 tried to make it a big 'twist' that Mrs White got the blades at the end. (lol)

Lol I was thinking the same thing. They can't exactly change the twist if they are keeping the psycho sexual type theme. Too bad it wouldn't be a shocker like the original shocked me. But I do hope the climax will look even better.

Well you have to remember- while us diehard slasher fans know the twist like the back of our hands there's millions of mainstream movie goers who never even heard of the series. So for them theu could still be surprised.

I just hope this doesn't randomly take half a decade to see the light of day like Return did

Not only that, but lets hope it doesn't turn out to be a piece of shit like Return either lol.

There was no excuse for Return to turn out as bad as it did. If this is as bad as that then I will lose all hope for the series.

So im guessing this wont be a big budget remake? Which is mostly good, cause it wouldn't feel right watching a bunch of CW/Disney stars in a Sleepaway Camp film.

That was my biggest worry. I'll still be watching this with one eye open.

As much as I like the series (I don't love it), this news doesn't exactly bother me at all. In fact, it's kind of interesting and I look forward to seeing what comes of it.

This news came hot on the heels of Scream Factory announcing a new unedited version on Blu-ray for next year.

I'm open-minded to the possibility, but with what happened to Return; I don't have hope that this will work. It's not likely it will have that charm if you will that the original have. How they'll execute the "shock ending" will be tough, unless they somehow do a reverse of the original. Who knows. Let's hope they don't fail.

Can't you see it? The effects of cinema violence on society?

I was thinking a reverse to the ending of the original too. The main character will be a boy this time, only to be revealed to be a girl at the end.

I really don't want this. Look what Return came out to be. I also don't want a dolled up, ABC Family cast remake with more blood and tits than it needs. I just want the series to be left alone since I already dislike 3 movies in the series.

The trilogy wasn't bad. I thought 2 and 3 were both entertaining. Return can suck it and don't think I should even count survivor.

By 3 movies I mean Teenage Wasteland (I know, shocker.), Return and Survivor.
