James Wan-produced Demonic. Also a Dimension Films title, Maria Bello, Scott Mechlowicz, Frank Grillo, and Cody Horn star. Will Canon directs with a screenplay by Max La Bella. “The film centers on the aftermath of a horrific massacre: five college students, brutally murdered inside a decrepit, abandoned home. Fresh on the scene, detective Mark Lewis and the police department’s psychologist, Dr. Elizabeth Klein (Bello), question one of the few survivors who explains they were amateur ghost-hunters, seeking out paranormal phenomenon at the abandoned house, believed to be haunted. But what started out as a harmless activity turned into something truly terrifying, and the suspect claims the responsibility doesn’t lie with any of the inhabitants, but with the house itself.“ source |

Okay. Cool. It's insane though that (1) this is how they release this movie in the States, and (2) there are no other upcoming time slots where Spike TV is even replaying the movie. I mean, one of the worst distributed movies of all time. |

I don't understand at all why it would get added to Netflix before it was released for people to buy unless they decided not to make any money from it. It definitely looks like it was intended for a theatrical release. This was really mediocre, and I don't understand why. The cast is good. There are plenty of characters that I should have liked just because they were played by actors that I was fond of for one reason or another. Frank Grillo and Maria Bello are playing their basic character types, so that is enjoyable enough. I am happy to see Aaron Yoo in another horror movie. I kind of think he should be cast in more just on the basis of having been in both the Friday the 13th and ANOES series. I used to hate watch The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and I'm glad to see Megan Good in something that isn't embarrassingly terrible. It still didn't make me care about the characters or plot. The cinematographer is great, but the cinematography works against the movie and makes it seem more disjointed. It ended up being really blah. I think part of the problem is that the story doesn't really make sense. It seems like a movie that was written to include the predictable twists, but they didn't bother to make sure that they made sense. It's really sloppy, and it is doing a Usual Suspects thing that draws attention to it. |
