VERY strong, brutal, action-packed film. I was expecting a generic action flick and in *some* ways it is. But it also manages to be one of the most intelligent and risk taking of its kind that I've seen recently. Shocking kills, terrorist acts that could offend many, and it never became predictable. For example; Spoiler: click to toggle The acting here was pretty good, though a few lines of dialogue here and there were shaky. The effects were also great, with the one exception being the helicopter 'attack' scene that looked pretty hokey but still didn't take me out of the film. All in all, I loved it. Definitely one of the best of this year. 9/10

This was an excellent thriller packed with great special effects and brilliant acting! Gerard Butler was fantastic. A solid 8/10. Give it a go. |

Frankly this one was a lot of fun and definitely offered up a lot to like throughout here. The fact that this one is more realistic overall is it’s most impressive quality, starting from the opening attack with the plane and serving up the action throughout the first half which shows realistic bullet hits and damage done against the citizens caught in the cross-fire which makes for a rousing opening attack. That this extends into the villains here as the take-over plan to actually have control of the building is incredibly well-done and thought-out, opting for the chaos of the massive attack to generate control through stealth while inside and it comes off rather well. With a pretty interesting reason why the villains are there, the use of the launch codes means that this one has some fun in the later half while the usual scenes of him taking out the group lead to a better pace and a generally more spectacle-filled nature in that regard give this a rather well-rounded feature but does feature some flaws throughout here. That it gets bogged down too much in useless bantering between the Army personnel waiting around trying to make plans while disregarding his actions is a trite tiresome and the hokey sentimentality of trying to atone for his past mistakes is too cliched to mean anything do cause this one to suffer somewhat, though the better parts here are incredibly worthwhile. |

Got this one yesterday. Basically DIE HARD in the White House, but I thought it was pretty awesome. More violent than I expected, too.

Definitely, I thought it was a lot of fun too. Personally, though, I've never understood the criticism of saying 'Die Hard in/on a ...' against a movie. It's a template that provides an excuse for lots of shootouts and action, isn't that what you're going for with the movie to begin with? For me, I've never gotten the point of that critique. |

I don't get that either. I've only seen one or two of the Die Hard movies but I don't really have any HUGE complaints with those so if I hear "Die Hard in...", I don't really see it as something to push me away from a movie. I don't think Toyland was meaning it as an insult though. |
