There will be a poll on this thread and on this page tomorrow from, 12:00 p.m. (EST), August 12 -- 12:00 p.m. (EST), August 13.

The poll will determine wether the Allied States will merge with the Allied Republics. We will keep the RMB but we will have to change forums (Our post counts will be edited). This is why the referendum will be done on the forum, because it only affects Allied States forum citizens.

Merger Information

Yes and the TAR region will come over to the TAS region. The Allied States would be the name of the new region if the merger succeeds to keep it constant with NationStates.

Thanks for clearing it up,and since we're moving, shouldn't we start shutting down topics that are not being used?

Well first I think the deal has to be finalized and agreed to by both regions. After that I had planned on leaving this forum open for archival purposes (so we could look up laws and stuff) but if others think that threads should be closed we could do that too.

We would decide together with the TAR citizens in a constitutional convention that would be held after the agreement is finalized by both regions. Right now there's a proposal for a free list proportional parliamentary system with a unicameral legislature. (Free list means that you vote for specific candidates. Seats are allocated proportional to party vote and the candidates within each party that receive the most votes are seated). But that's not set in stone and others could propose other systems more akin to a US type presidential system or a more traditional Westminster type parliament.

Just to be clear, if this is to move further on I guess we will have to change the constitution which will require a 2/3 majority, right?

I don't think we will be changing our constitution, we will be moving to their forums and we will be agreeing on a new constitution.
