This lens is mainly using the old technology. When in BW photography, the 3 colour filters are using for colour balance, contrast and saturation. the other old brand and model of fisheye are using small filter about the size of a 5 cents coin or a 10 cent coins and place at the back of the lens and not the front...

So Minolta's Fisheye have this built in filters to ease the pain for BW photographers to source for the filters... or they don't want to produce such filters, so they just have it built in :P

U won't see much effect even if u convert your colour to BW in the camera and use the filters...

Your blue filter in Florence light, u don't see the colour changes either because

1) the filter already cut of the blue cast
2) u are using AWB, so the camera balance up the colour when u are using the blue.
Everyone know how to take sharp photos with good lens, but do u know how to take good blur photos with fantastic lens?

This lens is one of the best lenses by Minolta/Sony. It produces rich and vibrant colours at f/2.8. Stop down to f/8 and it is OMG amazing!

I have been using it on KM D7D and later on the Sony A700. When fit on an APS-C size sensor DSLR, it does not provide a full fisheye effect due to the crop factor. However, it becomes a mix between an ultra-wide angle lens and a semi-fisheye effect lens.

One must be careful when shooting a scene with bright light source such as the sun or lamp/bulb, etc... as this lens is prone to flare and worst of all, the flares are multiplied by 3 created by the 3 built-in filters: FLW, O56 and B12. Minolta included these filters for black and white photography just because this lens has no ring for adding filter on its front. Quite a brilliant idea and this makes this lens very unique.

Providing a 180 degrees view on a full frame 35mm D/SLR camera, the front element is round and protruding a little out of its barrel. But worry not, it has a fixed metal hood to protect the front element. Even though that's some kind of protection for the front element, one must still exercise caution and keep it clear from dirt and scratches.

It features a focusing range of 0.2m to 1m and in my opinion, this is the best lens for travel and landscape photography. Just turn the focusing ring to the infinity mark and shoot in manual focus at f/16 and almost everything will be in focus and sharp. If you know how to set it up in hyperfocal, you'll definitely get excellent sharp photos!

This brilliant lens deserves a 5/5 points!
