The whole idea of calibration is to have standard. If the monitor is calibrated to the standard basically what you see on your monitor will be the same as other who had calibrated to the same standard.

If you follow you own standard, no one will see exactly what you saw.

sorry docdeng for borrowing your thread to ask some questions .

so what should be the standard calibration then ? like to share some with me ?

Happy reading.... http://www.normankoren.com/makingfineprints1A.html

thank you tankm , i will follow the link tonight when i am home , now in kitchen . :)

If you want to save the trouble of doing it manually, invest in a hardware based calibrator. It's more accurate and simpler to use as well. :)

Hi,

In digital photography, there are few calibration needed to be done and it is depend on your needs.

First of all, Monitor calibration.
As this is the first device that you will view your image. Mainly u want to know you have a very consistent and predictable result from your monitor. That is the key.

Gretag Macbeth Eye 1 Display 2 is probably better calibrator as compared to Spyder. I used Spyder before, but don't give enough consistency.

Next is to control your printing...
Normally, all my printing is done at 1 prolab, hence I know their "based" calibration and it is very close to my monitor calibration. What I see is what I normally get from them.

If you do your own printing, you need to understand what sort of profile your printer needs and calibrate them as well to create your custom profile.

You can't control other people's monitor, but you need to be able to control yours.

Once you nail down the monitor and printing, you could produce consistent and predictable result.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Hart

Product info here... I'm using the Spyder2Express http://www.colorvision.com/product-mc.php

In Singapore you can get it at Orient Photo at Sim Lim Square which sell it slightly cheaper than Cathay Photo.

Hart had mentioned Gretag Macbeth Eye 1, that is good but I cannot afford it.
