In short , these Tubes are actually used to bring the object nearer when you do not have the lens to reach ?

yes... you are learning :)

Actually if you have true macro lens like Sony 100mm that can do 1:1... no need for tubes liao :)

ok .. maybe it can bring you even closer?? That might actually give you another problem - FLASH.... how you going to flash at subject when your lens is too close ... blocking the flash?

Nope ... Otherwise I would have been a happy man doing that to my tele lenses for birding!! hahaha...

In fact i tried it on a 1.4x with all the tubes on my 200-400mm ... It was such a mess ...  Thinking i could reach the Moon that night . :sofunny:

I think i still need some time to mix & match with my Lenses & Tubes first to see how much good it can give . I did use a 12mm on my 100mm , too close to the subject already ... Its really not a need to use any tubes with the 100mm .

Many thanks again !

When you use tubes.. you have to note that you WILL have problem with focusing subject far far away ...

Using extension tube brings you closer to subject, but it also disable your infinity focus!

When you add tube to 200-400, definitely you will have no way to focus on the moon.

You can try stacking the tubes to see much closer you can use this 200-400 lens as macro lens? It's min focus distance is 2.5m .. at this distance, I think it will make little difference? Maybe try 70-200 ssm? its min distance is 1.1, so you can bring a bit closer? Try at home so it wont be a messy trip out!

Ming, Have you tried much on the tubes? What is the usual length (or combined) you used?

I tried , not much use to me . Because when using Filters , i don't see the need to add the Tubes . Maybe i am not used to the distance to reach the 'Model' la ... You may like to try it yourself soon .

extension tubes are best coupled with macro lenses, and provide very good magnification.
