My structure

Folders for Pictures
Pictures\ A100 \ Date + Description + (option: lenses used) \
Pictures\ A700 \ Date + Description + (option: lenses used) \
Pictures\ H1 \ Date + Description\

Sometimes I also keep a text file of within same folder for a list of filename (omitting the "DSC0") of the "good" pictures for that particular folder/shoot. I use this file later to know which file I need to photoshop later, without having to go through the whole good and bad pictures all over again. And in this file I include any other info not available in EXIF, eg. handheld, other prop used, etc.

Folders for web postings
Web \ flicker \ Description \ New

I use a new to differentiate new updates to be uploaded. After uploaded, the files are moved from New folder to the Description folder.

Folders for Fireworks/Photoshop files (png/psp)
Working files \ A100 \ Description \
Working files \ A700 \ Description \

Description fits and same for the 3 categories. When pressed for space, I can save these Fireworks/Photoshop files in CD/DVD and delete. Soo far have not done any.

I used to keep categories but do not find it useful because sometimes for some picture there may be too many categories for same picture, so conflict.

Using description allows me to know when, where and what kind of pictures in that folder. and that small text file allows me to list the good pictures, as well as any info I want to associate with a particular picture.

No la.. same shoot different lens but all same folder..
Edit: As to which lens used, can find from EXIF

eg.
A700\2007xxxx Sentosa TFCD 50F1.4 135 80-200
A700\2007xxxx Rugby 7 28-75 100-200 + TC1.4x
A700\2007xxxx SBWR 300 T90 T200-500

As for the lenses you can create your own code. 300 or 300F4 same. Unless you have 2 different 300mm, 300 shd be sufficient. eg. 50F1.4 & 50F1.7. I use T for Tamron. It seems redundant though. You can add S for Sony and M for Minolta.. hehe..

No, same shoot put all picture in same folder regardless which lens.

The lenses information on that folder name description (just one folder) is for info only. In most cases I left out the lens info because I know which one as I do not have duplicating lens range. EXIF can tell that.

its quite good to have a folder all by a lens , maybe for an event like SENTOSA and which lens is carried along that day .

01. sort by date
02. keep those unwanted , lousy , CMI blur photos aside in a folder until later then delete them all ...
03. add lenses used to particular folder

* thank you admin for moving the thread to the right section .

If you have time to do that .. it will be great..

I do not intend to because sometimes a shoot can be 400+ photos..

Eek I do not intend to subgroup these further into lenses used... too time consuming.. Practical wise, when previewing, you have to keep jumping from folder to folder.. not good idea, at least for me. That lens information is not critical/important enough to justify having separate folder.

CMI folder ... can be done, but not for me too because I got my text file to know which are the good ones.

if you have diferent folder for cmi and lenses .. you get too many sub sub folders.
