Hi bros,

I just bought a digicab (Akarui, analog type) from CP. Anyone happens to have the same brand? Got some other questions?

1. How long do you wait before you put tyour stuff inside?
2. Do we need to keep our cam stuff at 45-55% humidity?
3. Any effects on the rubber grip of the cam? They say it can become brittle if humidity is too low?

Can anyone shed some light please?

Thanks.

wah doc...congrats to ur new purchase..i thought u gonna just leave ur gears on the operating table.. :P

i'm using a digital version...but its abt the same...

1. Best to warm up ur cab for one day and set its settings to 45-55RH
2. 45-55 RH is the best range..any fungus spores will not able to germinate due to low humidity.
3. if u set any lower...any rubber parts of equipment will peel or worse crack..
Think a new system...

the problem is one is forever stuck at rh of 30% and the pther stuck at rh of 70%
went around looking for digital hygrometer. apparently it either out of stock or not so i had no idea which is working...the cab or the hygro meter...now using thise re-cycle silica gel..just in case the cab is malfunction

may need some time to understand the 1-2-3-4-5 or a-b-c-d-e to get the correct RH right . my 30 litre is by A-B-C , set at between C-D to get 45-55RH . took me 2 days to get it right . <_<

Congratulations bro docdeng !!! we were just talking about it last night .

sorry doc, an analog dry cab is always difficult to set and get right. a digital unit is very easy to set, and corrects itself automatically. an analog hygrometer requires checking once in a while (e.g. monthly) to ensure its still accurate.

calibrating it to the desired rH is the nightmare. there are many ppl (and posts) in CS where problems drove some to the brink of insanity  but i suppose its how accurate you need it to be. i've got many friends with analog units and have not reported problems.

45% rH is a little low. i experienced rubber grips turning whitish before so nowadays my cabs are set at 52% rH (not rocket science, just a compromise between 50 and 55, which is recommended by some). don't get too hung up abt humidity control - think Cambodia for 4 days, your lenses are going to sit in your bag in and out of the aircon and sun with no dry cab.

So far I haven't place my stuff inside yet. I'm observing the fluctuation and the correct setting to achieve 50% humidity.

"Incubating" your precious babies in the dry cab sure is . :banghead:
