it also varies from each make and model. plus the age of the monitors too, as apparently the setting will "degrade" over time as the lcd components age.

i guess investment in the spyder would be good if we're producing pro-level work, otw i rely on prints to compare/ adjust until i'm happy with my monitor/ printer set up against what i'm comfortable with on print.

As bro TH has mentioned.

Each monitor is different and can't be compare the setting. As the tube ages, it will need higher value to display "correct" look.

What you need to do is when you calibrate your monitor, calibrate at a constant light source (or none) and make sure the ambient lighting has no bearing to your overall calibration.

Even those calibrator only good for 80-85% colour correctness. If you want optimum screen, you may need to set up the room so it is constant for viewing both monitor and prints and have the LCD/CRT which have hardware calibration as well. You could look at Eizo CG series or NEC Spectraview series LCD if you want a better and predictable monitor but of course, it will hurt the pocket.

Also, if you are doing colour sensitive project, it is advisable to calibrate your monitor daily.

Regards,

Hart

thanks guys for your comments.

the settings are more for reference when I look at their posted photos here on my current settings. Not a good way to judge correctness. :)

As Hart mention,

Do a few different calibration with your room lights on and off, tilt your LCD to your eye level, make sure the spyder is "stick" to the monitor(with your hands holding on to it) and make sure no wild lights in.

When I do mine, the above are what i usually ensure... because you don't carry your monitor around but u adjust the angle of the monitor...

Thanks for the pointers. Will try calibrating with room light off. :)
