TS yannh , the question is back to you now . After what the Bros A & B's conversation , you got it ?

Do you still need a Faster Lens for Macro or get a A700 ? :P

Actually I'm quite lucky in the sense that I do not fall into BBB trap, not because I don't want but because I can not. :sofunny:

But I would think a fast lens is still good for macro, since it's brighter & providing shallower DOF, which makes manual focusing much easier.

And I think lens with slower focusing speed, usually is because the turn angle is relatively big by focusing from infinity to nearest. By right is should make the focusing with more precision, and hence sharper image, am I right?

Of course in the end, body with faster focusing motor gets all the advantage. That's why I'm waiting for you guys to throw it cheaply for me to "hop", when A350 or A900 comes.

err... don't mind me adding on here.

For all the lenses I have collected, I noted one thing common in ALL lenses;
no matter how fast, there will only be a selected range of f-values wherein images are sharp or sharpest.

Have yet to come across a lens, that is tack sharp from wide open to the largest f-value.

But excuse me if I sound noob... :D

One thing about buying new lenses; it's like exploring a new uncharted areas of the sea, wherein you do not know where the shallows are for fear of running aground!
So, it's the same process, try out each and every f-stop until you know what are the ranges, where images turn out either excellent, and where it is tolerable depending on needs. So it's akin to sailing around in uncharted waters, discovering where it is too shallow, and where it is just deep enough, or so deep you need not worry about hitting rocks.

Look for those lens mark with "G" or "Carl Zeiss".

Which lens have you experienced that's not sharp at widest aperture ?

Well, I certainly have not collected any CZ lenses or G classes yet.
So I can't really say that these two classes will be the same or perfect.
But I reserve my comments until I have check them out personally.

Having spent so much so far, I still feel CZ lenses are a tad bit over-priced, while the G classes are understandably pricier, given that they are mostly built with large apertures.

yep I have no doubts about G class lenses, but can't buy any now, not until after A900. Otherwise over budget!

I go for G optics for the Good sharpness, excellent bokeh and great colour. :)

Will dive into CZ if only I have enough extra monies to spare. :)
