I have tried the CZ16-80 against the Minolta 28-70 G...
CZ is sharp dur to the glass... but G is  :kowtow:

Love my G... looking for M 80-200 or S 70-200 G

yep I have no doubts about G class lenses, but can't buy any now, not until after A900. Otherwise over budget!

Push forward more your vacation a few years.

err... don't mind me adding on here.

For all the lenses I have collected, I noted one thing common in ALL lenses;
no matter how fast, there will only be a selected range of f-values wherein images are sharp or sharpest.

Have yet to come across a lens, that is tack sharp from wide open to the largest f-value.

But excuse me if I sound noob...  :D

Look for those lens mark with "G" or "Carl Zeiss".

Which lens have you experienced that's not sharp at widest aperture ?

Well, I certainly have not collected any CZ lenses or G classes yet.
So I can't really say that these two classes will be the same or perfect.
But I reserve my comments until I have check them out personally.

Having spent so much so far, I still feel CZ lenses are a tad bit over-priced, while the G classes are understandably pricier, given that they are mostly built with large apertures.

Large aperture has nothing to do with good sharpness. It's the design and QC that goes into the lens that make it great. CZ 16-80 is not wide aperture, you have to try it to know what it can produce. Do make sure you get a good copy though.

CZ will always fetch a premium, make worst by Singapore pricing. "G" is more affordable compare to CZ. But in recent time "G" pricing been creeping up slowly due to demand and some of the "G"s are no longer being made.

Yes it's true the glass matters in sharpness & not large apertures.
But I fear picking up a G or a CZ to end up fishing around for sharp f-values.

Oh that is exactly what I meant; are there lenses that are sharp throughout its f-values? Often, softness occurs near edges, otherwise they are obvious in the center at certain f-values. And then some exhibit sharpness on one edge while soft on another. And it all seems to change about as f-values are changed.

So, I have yet to come by one that is sharp no matter what the f-value is selected. That's what I meant to say.
