Hi all, I'm planning to purchase an external flash for my baby sony a100 to explore the realm of flash photography, and to get more useable indoor shots. Can anyone recommend me a flash unit to get? External or Sony ones? Currently I only know of 2 choices, the Sony HVL-F56AM ($699) and the Sony HVL-F36AM ($299). I heard that there is a HVL-F42AM with horizontal rotating head, but no idea on how much it'll be priced at. Seems to be replacing the F36AM? Just wondering, is the extra $400 worth the upgrade from the F36 to the F56? What factors do you have to look into in choosing an external flash unit? Thanks a lot in advance. |

HVL-36AM do the job well if you simply need a flash... HVL-56AM has more versatility in rotating the head (up down, left right) for flash bounce and more powerful.. If you do a lot of shoot requiring flash get 56am. If you need the flash maybe once a while... get the 36am.. |

Hi, I was considering the Sigma EF500 DG Super third party flash as well. According to the CS price list, its going for about $380 and comes with the dual axis rotation head, which I feel is one up from the sony's F36am. Would you anticipate any irritating problems with using 3rd party flashes? As far as I can see from the Sigma catalogue, only exposure compensation function would not be useable with the Sony A100. But i'm a little confused about this, could anyone help me out on this? Thanks a lot to all |

I would recommend the 56AM for the versatility and flexibility. I thought it is much cheaper that $699 ... like about $500 +- ??? Get an e-quote from MS or just give a call to Florence or Mr. Loh! |
