Hello there, i just bought A350 3 weeks ago , and its my first dig camera except mobile phone.. hope can learn from u guys. ^^

if can ask 1 newbie question:
Which one better between Sony 50mm f1.4 compare to Sony 50mm macro f2.8 , as for macro lens we can shot macro "plus" take portrait, etc.

and for sony 50mm macro f2.8 compare to tamron 90mm macro f2.8?

Hi groovinZhou , welcome you again here .

If you were to choose between this 2 50mm lenses , you may have to ask yourself , Portraits or Macros ? This 2 lenses performs differently . You will not take the 50mm Macro lens for portraits soon after you realised what it will produced ... Its too sharp for Portraits . Likewise , the 50mm f1.4 is a good lens for , basically anything , except Macros ... :P

I would suggest , a 50mm f1.4 for walkabout & the Tamron 90mm Macro .

Question :

When the object that i'm taking , is excessively bright , i compensate by adjusting my EV to +1

And when its excessively dark i adjust it to -1?

Or was it the other way rd -.-;

Sry, but when i adjust +1 it normally makes an object 'brighter'
so if i take something very bright shouldn't it be -EV not +?
*Confused*

Hi RiRi,

That's correct. To understand why, you have to understand several things.

1. Human eyes is superb, which can control the amount of lights entering by adjusting the pupils. Moreover, our brain are trained to recognized amount of lights, colors during baby growing period. And someone actually called us "ultimate metering machine".
2. Camera metering system actually try to mimic human eyes. although sensors can detect amount of lights as intensity, normal sensors has no brain to understand colors. Hence the default setting is to set the measurement to "mid-tone", making it as average intensity.
3. White objects reflects more lights, black object absorb most lights.
4. The result of this, if you're taking a picture of white object using automatic metering setting, it will turn out to be light grey, which is too dark compare to what our eyes recognize. And if you're taking a picture of black object, it will turn out to be dark grey, which is again too bright compare to what our eyes interpret.
5. So to compensate what the metering system cannot do well, we have to compensate + stops for taking light tone bright color object, and compensate - stops for dark tone dull color object, as to have the result similar to what our eyes see. It's not necessary +/- 1 stop, it can range from 1/3 to even 3 stops sometimes.

Hope this help. Others can correct me if I'm not accurate.

Welcome groovinZhou.

Like what Galdor & Ming has mentioned, there's not a fair comparison to say which lens is better, before knowing your needs. Each lens is designed and produced with it's purpose and target. There's no best lens that can take everything the best of best. It's like choosing a wife, all girls are good, some looks good, some behave good, some cook well, some... I won't go into too much details. :sensored: So in short, you have to know what you need. It's life.
