Hi everyone! There's tons of noobie questions that has been bothering me lately, and need help in answering them. I've heard about the hyperfocal distance and its chart. I don't really understand what it means, what it does and how it works. secondly, does any of the sony's flashes has a FEL(flash exposure lock)? And, how does the mechanism of ISO and Light sensitivity works? How about image noise processing? For color temperature, I heard that color temperature measurement uses the logic of "black body radiator", where a black body heats up from red to blue. What does this has got to do with the color temperature in the A100 and the term "correlated color temperature"? What does the "Guide Number(GN)" concept got to do with flashes and how to apply them in photography with the A100? If a flash were to have it's hss(high speed sync) activated, what disadvantages will it have compared to a flash without hss on? I don't really understand exposure values and the table of exposure values, with EV compensation, and really need some detailed explanations regarding this topic. Is there FEC(flash exposure compensation) on any of the sony's flashes? When is the appropriate time to use the standard DRO(d-range optimizer), advanced DRO and when to turn DRO off? I hope that i can learn something new from you guys. |

Wah... most of your question I also want to find out! Regarding exposure value, here's a good article to share. http://www.fredparker.com/ultexp1.htm Here you can find the definition of hyperfocal distance. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperfocal_distance Also some explaination here. http://www.dofmaster.com/hyperfocal.html |

In the forum, it will be easier to get answer to specific point questions, then broad/general topic questions. To learn basic photography concept, try this link... http://www.photonhead.com/beginners/ Invaluable uncle with vast knowledge ... Google and Wikipedia. For Minolta/SONY DSLR flash... http://www.mhohner.de/sony-minolta/flashcomp.php >> does any of the sony's flashes has a FEL (flash exposure lock)? Ans: Not that I know of. >> If a flash were to have it's hss(high speed sync) activated, what disadvantages will it have compared to a flash without hss on? Ans: When using HSS, the overall flash power is reduced. All depend on the final shutter speed you are using. >> Is there FEC(flash exposure compensation) on any of the sony's flashes? Ans: Flash compensation is control on your camera body. >> When is the appropriate time to use the standard DRO(d-range optimizer), advanced DRO and when to turn DRO off? Ans: Experiment to understand how DRO will help. Use low ISO when you rely on DRO heavily. Turn OFF DRO for night shot. This is not cast in stone rule, best is to experiment. I have used DRO for night shot as well and it turn out ok as well. Welcome to Alpha DSLR.

Thanks tankm for answering my questions. Right now, i think i have one more question...i guess it's more like a problem. When i try to start up my a100, it doesn't start up immediately. The dslr vibrates internally and produces a whirring sound (mechanically). After a some whirring for about 1-3 seconds, then it finally starts up. I tried taking out the lens, changing the batteries, charging the batteries, removing the CF card, turning SSS off and switch off the dslr befor starting up again, and the problem still persists. What is happening here? Any solutions for this? If still have warranty left. If i send to SSC for servicing, will they try to charge me for something i didn't do(again)? Before this happened, i attempted some night shots with low aperture and long shutter speed, before turning it off and going to sleep. The dslr did not drop and received impact at all nor did anyone touch it when i was sleeping. |

I only have one lens. The 18-70 kit lens. ![]() The sound comes from the camera itself. |
