hi bros, especially those who are very familar with PS or photo file formats.. i've been experiencing this problem and am not sure what is wrong...

Alot of times, my processed photos after PS automatically save as Adobe PS Elements JPEG format (instead of JPEG) even when i select JPEG format.

The one main obvious difference is when i double click on the file again to view the photo, it opens up in PS and not a picture viewer.

Another difference seems to be the filesize... Adobe PS Elements JPEG file size is significantly larger than a normal JPEG file size.

I'm not too sure what other inherent differences there may be...

Perhaps it may help if i list down my usual PS workflow:

1. From RAW file, convert to JPEG in RAW Converter (which is currently the software provided by SONY)
2. Open JPEG in PS Elements for further processing until done
3. CTRL-S (file is automatically saved as Adobe PS Elements JPEG format) and Exit
4. Re-open the Adobe PS Elements JPEG format in PS again and give a slight tweak
5. CTRL-S (this opens up the JPEG Save dialog box) and OK
6. File is now normal JPEG format.

Color profile is default at sRGB...

I also noticed that while it doesnt happen to ALL the files, it happens to most of the files, like 85% of all the photos. My workflow is always the same though, so i'm not sure what's causing it...

Anyone any idea?

Not sure if of relevance at all but perhaps you might like to add what software / version are you using in particular.

no idea bro, but from yr workflow, the problem described and inconsistent occurrence it may be a missed step between 4 & 5 if a certain condition is not met.

thanks bro.. though i would think something went amiss in step 3... coz by step 4, the file is aldy saved as an Adobe Photoshop JPEG file...

but i dun do any special save setting .. just CTRL-S and OK OK OK (u know the drill... click click click all the way)

then how abt step 2? could it be due to conditions there? e.g. whether you perform a certain pp action or not, that could "qualify" it as an Elements file?

to narrow it down, the next time you notice two files that save in a diff format, swap the pp steps and see if the inverse happens.
