well. the digital hygrometer we bot in hardwareshop for 20plus $$ are not really accurate. A good one that needs to calibrate every yr cost 400plus. haha, see the difference. All hygrometer has a tolerance %. Haiz, guess i will go for DHC series then.

under the circumstances of whats available in the market DHC is the best option - if "good" => $400 and requires calibration annually, then even the DHC series cmi.

Just wonder, does the digital type works more efficiently?

Assuming the digital controller detects the actual RH% & preferred RH% difference is big, then increase the power, when they are the same, cut off the power, does it works that way? (Like air-con thermostat)
Or purely easy to set only?

1. its easy to set. press "S", press up/ down buttons to desired rH, press "S" again.
that's it.

2. it will allow the rH to go past a little. for instance, i set mine at 53%, sometimes the rH will reach 55% then the hygo kicks in and cuts out at about 52 or 51%. so i believe there's some allowance, and yes, its like aircon thermostat, cuts in and out and doesn't run 24x7. even then its like 5 watts for a 80L or 100L cab.

well, i ordered a DHC 40, and it was delivered yesterday. Well, when the dry cabi was empty, i set the RH to 50% and i placed my 20$ hygrometer into it. Initially, both digital hygrometer actually register the same value, at 50%, (wow impressive). But then, when the cabi stop operating as the RH% has reached the preset, i notice tat the 20$ hygrometer actually register an increase of RH faster than the hygrometer tat came with the dry cabi. After that, i start placing all my stuff in and the cabi kick in again and start to reduce the RH. Well this time round, my 20$ hygrometer din register the same RH as the cabi's one. I suppose that the cabi start working when the detected RH by the hygrometer differs from the preset by 2%. But by the time the cabi reach 52% RH (preset was 50%), my 20$ hygrometer register 58%. So now, i am kinda unsure which one is correct or more accurate. so to play safe, i set my preset RH to 48%.

But i guess there are just normal tolerance from the hygrometer, dun have the 400$ calibrated hygro, haha. This dry cabi is really gd, no regrets getting the DHC series. Initially, i wanted to get the AD series, but after there are no stock and the simplicity of just setting the RH, i would seriously recommend the DHC series. :P Cheers

its ok. just don't get too hung up abt the accuracy otw you'll never consider even taking your eqpt out in our super-humid climate. imagine 40% to something like 90%

i dunno abt the $20 hygro, but i know the dhc is quite accurate - at least from the recommended settings list, at 40+% you can even keep stuff like stamps and notes bone dry, so not recommended to go too low for photo eqpt otw rubber parts will dry up and crack. at 50% i had some lens grips turn slightly white before.
