I'm starting a thread for all to share their street shoot set ups for both local and overseas trips. hopefully this will also help the new bros and sis to figure out what works for them, based on what they have (or may need to consider buying/ borrowing) on their maiden trips. The structure may not be perfect, but contributors please try to stick to it, so that there's some order and easier for readers to follow. perhaps we can start an "equipping" series for other types of shoots like weddings, events, sports, concerts, fashion, modelling, macro etc category (local/ overseas): camera(s): lens(es): bag(s): accessories: set up: rationale: |

category (local/ overseas): Local camera(s): Sony A700 KM 7D lens(es): 70-200mm SSM Minolta 16-80mm CZ 10-20mm Sigma 50mm macro Sigma bag(s): Lowepro Flipside 300 Think Tank belt and LC75 PopDown pouch accessories: Lens cleaning kit (lens pen, lens tissue & fluid, cotton swabs, small blower) Batteries CF cards Flash (optional, with modded SLA battery pack) set up: A700 with 70-200 (in Think Tank "holster", strap over shoulder for added support) 7D with 16-80 (neck slung) 10-20 and 50 on standby in bag with accessories rationale: 16-80 set up provides good coverage (as does 18-70 kit lens) for most shoots. for wider shots, change over to the 10-20, or macro, the 50mm 70-200 SSM on the A700 is a deadly combination for very fast AF. The 5fps gives you more frames to choose from and bokeh is to die for. However this is normally used for impromptu portraits. For overseas trips: i'll add a tripod, cable release, chargers (of course!) and a portable hard disk (that backs up CF cards) to the set up. i'll swap the Lowepro flipside for the Compurover and for flash, modded battery pack with AA batts. |

Well... locally, i would bring... A-700 + 16mm f2.8 FE + 35mm f1.4 + 85mm f1.4 + Domke bag Overseas?? depending on the nature of the place. But will be very similar... + 135mm f2.8 + 20GB CF Cards + Portable storage device + Gitzo Traveller tripod. Analogy, 16mm give me wide, 35mm give me intimate image, 85mm & 135mm give me head shots and give me the freedom to work with very little light. No zoom for me if I have choice. Regards, Hart |

Just to share.... category (local/ overseas): Overseas This was what I brought for 4-day Siem Reap (Cambodia) camera(s): A700, Sony H1 lens(es): 11-18, 28-75/2.8, 70-210/4 (beercan), 400/4.5 bag(s): Tamrac Expedition 5 accessories: Raynox DCR-250 for macro on beercan/28-75 1.4x TC 56HVL flash (not used) CF 2GBx5 + 4GBx3 MS 2GB+1GB (for H1) 40GB Ext HDD Manfrotto XProB + 488RC2 1/3 tub of silica gels blower + lens cloth + lens cleaning kits batteries (incl AAs) + chargers walkie talkies 5 slots 2-pin extension cords ( set up: A700 + 28-75/2.8 (75%) rationale: 11-18 for sunset/sunrise + wide temple shots (less used, since sun is so small, many temple can be covered with 28-75) 28-75 & beercan for day to day, street shots. This is good enough for whole journey.. but a 18-250 or 16-80 would have been better. 400/4.5 for birds since most places forested. I am a bird man! (turn out I even used this lens for sunrise/sunset, portraits) what i wished I had: gradient, CPL filters! spare body instead of H1 Sleep  |

category (local/ overseas): Local Macro Shooting camera(s): A700 A350 lens(es): CZ16-80mm Sony 100mm Macro Tamron 180mm Macro bag(s): Lowepro Flipside 300 Sling Pouch for Water Bottle accessories: Flash & RC Batteries iBounce Cards ( C&M Bounce ) DIY Diffuser & Soft Box Extra 4gb of Memory Card set up: Alpha with 100 mmMacro Lens & Flash setup . Will change to 180mm Macro if subject is too far to reach . rationale: The 100mm Macro Lens is best for many many Macro shots , with subjects reasonably close , i may not need the 180mm most of the time . The CZ16-80mm is always with me just in case i need some scenery shots . |

category (local/ overseas): Overseas (7 days in Western Australia, 2007) camera(s): A100 (now A200) lens(es): Sigma 18-50 F2.8 Sigma 75-200 F2.8-3.5 Sony 50mm F1.4 bag(s): Lowepro Compu Daypack accessories: CPL GND8 with Cokin filter holder Photo storage Lightweight Tripod set up: A100 w 18-50 (80%, covers everything except long range shoots) A100 w 75-200 (15%) A100 w 50 (5%, indoor, portraits mostly) rationale: As with many bros, A100 with 18-50 gives me the best walkabout setup for trips. Light, nice short tele, fast (F2.8). Sigma 18-50 is highly under-rated! It does so much for me that I barely needed the 50mm. lowepro Compu Daypack gives me space for the lenses and camera and also place for guide books / laptop as well as space for some light shopping. I really love my Cokin GND8 during trips as it allos me great control in difficult lighting (landscapes, beaches, sunrises, very bright skies) wishlist: I wish I have Sony's 18-250mm, I think that would be the most versatile walkabout lens at the moment. Reviews are glowing... For the price and the range, not much can match it when it is at F5.6 to F11... If I had that, I might be able to do a 2 body system, with A100/A200 with the 18-250mm and perhaps in the future A700/A900 with my Minolta 28-70 G or Sigma 12-24 wide-angle. For short short trips, 1 body with 18-250 will probably be enough! (that and my Fuji IR camera) |
