Most of the older lens - if you view at 100% - it's not that sharp.. as compare to the latest.
Try pumping up the contrast and view again.. I bet you will see improvement.

Looking at your photos, the lens seems to be OK. If you print out the photo, it's sharp.
If you want sharpness, increase the contrast or sharpness on your camera setting or thru PP.

Again, if you increase the contrast, you may lose info on the dark area..
(for solid perfect sharpness.. go for CZ lenses.. super sharp.)

IMHO, those from the older Minolta lenses.. you will get more details and later you can increase contrast / sharpness to get the what you want... and from more details.. you will get the 3D effect... and not as flat as those from super sharp lenses.
(I may get :knock: for this comment..) :D

hey its true!
they can look so much closer in terms of sharpness after i sharpen it a little and push up the contrast a little bit!

dammit...its so simple why haven't i thought of it earlier :knock:

anyway, seems that the common opinion i gather is that its natural for this lens (or any other lens for that matter) to obtain such sharpness at wide open apertures.

guess i'll have to live with it, or just sharpnen them according to what bro eyesthruthelens mentioned!

i'll be going down sony service centre to repair my index finger control dial, so maybe will check out their servicing policies for minolta products.

thanks to all :)

Hi There,

I would recommend you try and use a flash - external if possible , point the flash bounced upwards (remember to +1~1.5EV) and take the same shot again.

Check if you get a sharper shot his time.

I used to own this lens. Really great sharpness and range.

rgds,
sulhan
