Hi ppl,

So far, has anyone upgraded from the A100 to the A200?
I see a number of features/improvement on the A200 which is quite tempting to me :P

1) faster autofocus
2) battery grip
3) better ISO performance (i dont care about 3200, but at 1600 it looked much better to me)
4) infolithium battery % readout is nifty to have, but not necessary
5) more intuitive menu system (i like a dedicated ISO button)
6) it FEELS more compact, although dimensions and weight not much of a difference
7) bigger LCD (not very important too, but nice to have)

Hmm, but I dont think its sufficient to warrant a body upgrade isnt it?
and anyway, Sony doesnt sell A200 body only option anyway.

Comments?

Bro,
Why don't you consider A350 upgrade?
Higher sensor Mpixel and live-view... are the added advantage :)

I actually didnt like how big the tiltable LCD became. Makes the space for the right thumb very cramped. And 2.5fps is a little slow too. As for the additional 4mpx, I can happily do without =) A300 would be a more reasonable choice for me if it ever comes to Singapore.

But of course, the live view implementation is remarkable, my gf will love that...

hmmm.... oh well just thinking and dreaming only :P

heard that A200, A300 & A350 don't have DOF preview (not too important anyway), no mirror lock up for 2 seconds timer (important for very tele lens shots to minimise shake).

A300 & A350 should have smaller viewfinder compare to A200.

I'm one of the few who did the upgrade...
A200 is worth the upgrade for:

  • Faster AF (Using same motor as A700)
  • Better ISO noise level control (I won't shoot at ISO400 for A100 but I have np problems moving up to ISO800 on A200)
  • Controls are arranged (I was initially uncomfortable with the removal of 1 control dial, but now found the Fn button better)
  • I believe the mirror lockup for 2 sec exposure is still there...

Sony's vertical grip far better than 3rd party...

Can always sell of A100 with the kit lens from the A200...

Dedicated ISO button is definitely easier to use... If only the WB is also a dedicated button...

A200 with Kit lens is under 1.1k... Can try to sell the A100 body for $600-700... New body, new warranty, better functions...

Why not considering A700? :D
The calculation should be simple. How much you need to top up for A200, measure against improvement you need on it.

Before u upgrade, give tis a thought first...
- wat cant u do wif ur current camera
- do u really need those upgrades
- A100 high iso is still acceptable, i've been using iso 800 and sometimes 1600 with reasonable results

For me, i would invest in lens unless i have spare cash then i would consider an upgrade... and i would go for A700 rather than A200... and i will wait till A900 comes out as the prices will drop once again...

"The single most important component of a camera is the twelve inches behind it."
