which 2x tc are you looking to get? the newer sony one is not for keeps, its new and not rare. the older minolta ones (APO and APO II) would be rarer but there are some that are designed to work with different lenses. 2x TCs in general multiply your focal length by 2. so a 50mm lens would yield 100mm (ignoring the digital sensor crop factor). but before you think you can turn your 500mm lens into a cheap 1000mm one, the 2x TC also reduces light by 2 stops. so a f/1.4 lens would become f/2.8 (no way you can override this). and... the maximum aperture is f/4, if your lens' largest aperture is f/5.6 then you lose AF altogether. btw, AF speed is reduced with a TC, whether 1.4x or 2x. in the case of a 500mm f/8 mirror lens, you'll be shooting 1000mm f/16 in full manual focus, so better pray for a very bright day. |

Hi RiRi Teleconverter (TC) is meant for Tele lens.. So people only use when have no choice but need the extra reach their tele lens cannot give.. Avoid using if can. Reason 1: TC adds 1 stop for 1.3x, 1.4x or 1.5x TC TC adds 2 stops for 2X TC adds 3 stops for 3X Reason 2: Picture degradation is obvious, much so for 3rd party TCs. TC magnifies the quality of lens Good lens + TC = ok picture Good lens + Good TC = Good picture Lousy Lens + Lousy TC = VERY lousy picture Lousy lens + Good TC = not possible (cannot fit) Reason 3 (yeah like what TH said): Roughly... F2.8 lens + 1.4x = OK AF F2.8 lens + 2x = Slow AF F4 lens + 1.4X = Slow AF F4 lens + 2X = MF (Manual Focus) > F4 lens + 1.4X = MF (Manual Focus) >F4 lens + 2X = MF (Manual Focus) You need good lens after all.. Reason 4: Good TC = Sony/Minolta TC = expensive |

RiRi , this 50mm f1.4 itself is a very good lens to use . But by adding a 2X TC to make it 100mm f2.8 ... I have thought of this & had personally tried it . Its not going to make it as what you think of the 85mm f1.4 .Hope you are not thinking that by adding the 2X TC on the 50mm f1.4 = 100mm f2.8 can do Macro too .

Actually i sort of understand the technical part of wad clkoh explained lol Ming , Oops tat post was backdated to march 5th so din't quite see it XD Everyone, Thx for advice. Think i'll use the 50mm and den crop some of my images for better pic quality. I was thinking abt using it as a free 100mm lens but looks like i'll have to reduce a lot of other things just to get it -.-; Might as well do some picture editing instead =/ |
