I have been using this device in Singapore and Malaysia.
It's easy to use and what I need to do is set the camera time to local time and turn on the GPS device.
After downloading the photos, I just need to map the photos with the GPS data.

I have a question on the GPS device when I go for oversea travel.. If I'm in US, is it that I need to set the camera clock to US time in order for the photos to map with the GPS data correctly?
My understanding is that the time for the GPS device is automatically update while for the camera itself, we need to set the time according to the local time in the country.
If the camera is still set to Singapore time, then the mapping of locations will have error.

Can someone confirm this?

Thanks.

Have you tried you using the GPS software? If I remember correctly, there is something about adjusting the GMT time? SG we use +8.

Yes.. the SW will ask for GMT and I always set +8.. so in this case, is it that I do not need to adjust the camera time at all?

I think it depends.. If you changed the camera time to local time, then you have to change the GMT to be same timezone.

If you keep the SG time in camera, then GMT should remain at +8.

The first situation if preferable since it will show correct time the pictures taken.

Perhaps the frequent traveller and user of Sony GPS can comment?? Julianw??

The GPS device receives the universal timestamp from satellites. So if your camera use SG time (not the timezone of the place you visit), and your datalog set to SG timezone. All the photos can be auto matched.

If you set the local time to your camera, e.g. US time, you have to set your datalog to US timezone also.

OK.. seems like it's OK to just leave the camera time as Singapore time.
Thanks.

What matters is that the camera and gps clock is as accurate as possible. (try setting your camera with any of the time server e.g. singaporestandardtime.org.sg)

The camera and GPS clock should be on the same time scale. if the camera is set to Singapore then in software, GPS should set to GMT+8
