haven't heard of this set up, but how many CFs can you cycle onto an empty ipod? i think a laptop of portable backup drive is more practical... |

Basically, Ipod Classic comes with 80GB and 160GB and the size is like a mobile phone. If this works with Sony camera and loading is fast, U can just connect the camera to the ipod. it will be like carrying an 80GB of hdd shooting while loading and u don't have to carry a CF card at all... Previous KM7D have a software that link your camera to your computer and it takes up the HDD space, but it doesn't work with mac... if not wrong, sony doesn't have this software. but when connect to the computer, its like a card reader effect... If this gadget works like a HDD just to transfer the files in, a card reader HDD is of course the best choice. of course, Laptop is a fantastic gadget. But u have to be mobile and this is not a smart way to use. http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9861G/C?fnode=home/shop_ipod/ipod_accessories/extras&mco=MTcwNDE |

Hi there, I have used this device before, and not a very pleasant experience. But my setup was slightly different. I used the following: 1) Apple iPod Video 40gb (fully charged) 2) Apple Camera Connector (borrowed from my friend) 3) USB Card Reader (connected to the camera connector via USB cable) 4) Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo (2gb full, about 400 jpeg photos) After I setup the system, it took quite a while for my iPod to recognize the photo import and begin the transfer. Trying to operate the iPod during this transfer (eg. to pause or stop or to save the import) was painfully slow. It took about 15minutes to transfer 87 out of 400 photos, after which my iPod went flat and everything just stopped. I just gotta thank god that it didnt corrupt my MSPro and cause all the data to disappear. I unplugged everything, recharge my iPod. The 400 photos were still able to be viewed in my camera. However, the 87 photos which is supposedly transfer into my iPod is nowhere to be seen nor found. Not a very useful product I must say, considering the scary experience i've had. The transfer is stupidly slow and drains the iPod battery stupendously fast. This gadget is not exactly cheap too. I suggest you find one to play around with first before commiting to a purchase. Cheers, weisheng |

thanks... i guess i will have to wait longer for more advance product.... U can just imagine the Sony camera when u set the folder format to date format. Each change of date, there will be a new folder (which is good for archiving). I have not touch C and N camera for very long time... no idea if they can do that... 8GB of card can take 330 odd RAW files... 80GB of Ipod... WAH!!!!!!!!!! |

I have the cheap DigimateIII which I used to backup memory cards..basically just a 2.5"HDD with a casing with built-in card reader.. but I never dared to format the cards after transferring to the HDD in the digimateIII cause I was just not confident in that device.. (can not view it on the device itself)... I guess u can use something like the epson viewer... used to be quite expensive ... but not sure whats the pricing now.. Another solution i thought of is those UMPC... those very small laptop like the ASUS eeepc... which costs <$400 .. then bring along a portable HDD.. still quite portable and can view the photos .. not sure if its practical though..

hmmm... viewing is not the main concern... storing is... if i have to remove the card and put into the card reader HDD, i guess there are lots of choices... will explore UMPC.... |

If one of your criteria is not to remove the CF during photo transfer, look for storage that has "USB OTG support". OTG = On the go. SLS has lots of USB OTG only products, only problem is they may not allow you to test. ![]() One of them from east gear... http://www.eastgear.com/store/nexto-extreme-nd2700-professional-storage-device-case-only-p-143.html The ND2700 support both OTG and CF card options. Can go to their shop and test out to see if you like it.
