I'm not sure if this is meaningful....

A commonly asked question in newbie section is always, "which brand of camera should I get".
And the answer is always "try out yourself to choose the one you like".

I find the answer neither really help nor having depth. As a newbie, he/she may need to go through path that many of us has gone through. Just like in life, sharing of experiences to juniors really helps sometimes. Everyone of us has a story behind.

So I'm thinking, why not having a thread to share our path in the pass, how do we become an alpha mount users today. Testimony is always very persuasive.

At the same time, we can get to know members here deeper as well.

Sony Alpha.

at that time, all because of the SSS (or AS, Anti-Shake) build in the bodies for all lens usage caught my attention to KM, then Sony Alpha mount.

Now it's the colour, selection of lenses (CZ and G, STF), ergonomic build, user friendly menu, 24/7 service centre which still attract me to Sony.

But the Sony local pricing do put me off. End up have to look for HK/MO for Sony or CZ lens.

Emeritus Alphadslr Official Passerby~shooting badly since 2004 and continuing

well for me it was know as konica minolta back then....
i didn't knw anything abt brands like canon, nikon, pentax and olympus..it wasn't even my intent to buy
any in the first place....was happily shooting away with my lumix fz-1 back then.

Then come the announcement of the konica minolta 5D.....it got everyone excited as it is the 2nd camera to come out after the km7d with Anti-shake capability. It was a natural progression for me to choose one with the similar technology as my panny o.i.s (opitical image stabilizer) ....then come the fateful day.... in 2005 or isszit 2004? the october sitex show. i was at different booths trying out various brands when at the km booth... while testing out the gear...the saleman bombard me with extra cf card, additional zoom lens 75-300mm and one additional local warranty at less than the rrp....so subconciously.... i just bought into the system just like that..hahaha

For me.. all along is CANON... until I saw the advertisement at the Bus Stop KM5D with antishake and 6Mpixel... then the price was so attractive with kit-lens + the tele-zoom lens.

After that, it's the Minolta lenses that keep me with Alpha-mount... now, it's the group of friends here in alphadslr.com. :)

I only had one PnS Sony camera back in 2000 - Sony FP71 with 2xAA battery 3Mpix. After that I have always used Casio Exilim, the battery simply just amazing.

I choose A-mount and disregard Nikon and Canon simly because I'm comfortable with Sony's products. They are pricey but they are good (well not at the first generation e.g. A100 or Sony HD handycam SR-1), but they will make it good.

Choice to be proven right so far, it has SSS while others have none (on the body). It'll take few years before A-mount grow though. Sony is very slow at this time.

Was introduced to Minolta during the SLR era...
Went to CP with a friend. His uncle worked (or still?) there.
Was young (19 years old), so just gave him my budget and ask for a good recommendation. Minolta Dynax...

Later, went into digital PnS... bought Sony P73 because I also felt Sony had good products, and wanted only AA batteries type... Then H1... then F717... then F828... then V1...

When finally deciding to go into DSLR, spent a long time thinking... Canon / Nikon / Canon / Nikon... then heard that Sony bought over KM... and out came A100... Went and got it... using old Minolta lenses that I had... Minolta 35-70 kit... Tokina 20-35... Vivitar 70-210...

That is basically it...

Wah.. such topic.. interesting...

For me it's all started with with bird photography of course.. but not with dslr.

My first camera Sony P5, cost me $1200! It was my 2nd cam, Sony H1 with 12x zoom (equivalent of 432mm) started it all. Even got to the extent of buying front teleconverter for the lens. Or even the telescope attachment on H1 for 3456mm! But it's AF performance and burst shots failed me .. too slow. Had to be a DSLR.

Was comparing Nikon D70, Canon 300D and Sony A100. Was even looking at D200 then although price too steep for me.

Was convinced by the SSS, and the fact that lens no need SSS, and hence could be cheaper. OK the second part, not quite true .. haha... Thanksfully I manage to find good Minolta lenses..

Hey I could have been one of those N & C guys there.. Maybe it's fated .. No regret la. Nice meeting you all!

A700 are my 1st DSLR.

So i compare between C,N & S before i got the camera.

Noise : not very much different from Dpreview test.
Design : A700 are just simple and easy to use. Very comfortable when hold with it.
Lens : C & N had so many lens, how many of them are good? and how many i need? Sony had Carl Zeiss and G
lens that can give me the what i want.
Performance : not much different for me between D300 , 40D, and A700.
Comment : Both had their good and bad comment from the user, nothing is perfect.

After hold the camera for 8month. So far i'm quite happy with the A700, only the Noise and the price are make me sad. One more thing to worry for me is the repair cost.....this is what i really worry.
