My reasons were quite simple. That time I was thinking to buy Canon 400D, but compare with A100, I picked A100 due to the built-in SSS and cheaper price.
Alpha 700 | Minolta 70-210mm F4 | Sony 50mm F1.4 | Tamron 10-24mm F3.5-4.5 / 17-50mm F2.8 / 90mm F2.8 Macro
Dreaming: A900 | 24-70mm F2.8 | 85mm F1.4

Well, for me, I started photography with my first SLR, the Minolta Dynax 7si. That was somewhere prob in 1996. I remembered I bought it with my first job bonus after my army. Goosh, how old am I now? ^o)

Was playing with this cam for a few years, stopping once a while due to career advancement. Love shooting macro and bought a tammy 90. Ya, its the current tammy which I am still using and it has serve me well since the good ol' film days. :D

One of my Nikon friend intro me to CS, during the time when Konica & Minolta merged as one. Heard about the DSLR 7D and w/o thinking, bought a grey set from TCW. Then, I only have a 28-105mm xi zoom, tammy 90 and a Sigma 70-300mm APO. There's no turning back since then.

On why I chose A-Mount in the first place......well, I cant really remember why. I guess I just like the name of Minolta. :good: Have long heard about those G lens since but din have a chance to own any of them. I hope one of these days I will.

But for now, I enjoy every moment along my journey in photography. The friends and bro/sis make along the way, surpass almost everything. Now SONY has taken over KM........its going to be like no other.

In fact i started off with a $3k plus Sony Video Cam long ago , for video-ing my 1st Baby Girl . Oh , we are talking about digital now , not those how we started with Photography right ?

Soon i realised that i have been taking more photographs with the Video Cam . Then i go for the newly launched Sony P9 , iirc , its the first 4MP Effective Digital Camera by Sony ... Then i moved on to V Series , the V1 . Wow , that was Power la !!! But all i know was only that little 'Green Box' & the P = Pro Mode .

Then i moved on to the F Series . The size of the Camera just goes bigger ... F717 ... F828 ... R1 ... Then the A100 which started my Photography Journey to better photos . Only now then i know what are the basics of taking a Photos ... :faint:

I have a special liking on Sony ... Don't know why also ... I see Sony , i goes :bava: ... Well , on certain things only la . Big LCD & Plasma , Notebooks & some others are far for me to reach ...
Ask ... Absorb ... Equip ... Execute

Alright, thanks for the response so far.

As for me, I started choosing a SLR in the 90's, influenced by my hall mates.
At that time I was impressed by auto-focusing technology, and I'm aware that Minolta is the pioneer in that. After a few comparison, impressed by Minolta many European award winning models, feature packed yet reasonable pricing. Nikon was famous all that while but their AF was not mature at that time, giving Canon a chance to capture a large segment of market share. And I didn't choose Canon because of it's price & feature comparison. So I'm hooked to a-mount with 3 lenses since then. But I didn't learn much as every snap with film is not cheap. (I got a minolta 5xi, so Shadow, I'm not young either, haha!)

When I first got my digital compact camera on year 2000, I basically leave SLR and lenses untounhed. It's only functioned as normal point and shoot, capturing moments and nothing else.

Last Dec, when I looked at my old lenses again, feeling very pitiful for them, as well as myself. So I start to search about mounting than can fit my lenses. Then I realized the market changes, know about A100, read reviews and decided to carry on. So I got an used body from a bro here and start my digital photography journey.

The journey is becoming more interesting when I get to know this forum, and the people here. I started to know more about CZ, G, but on the other hand, BBB virus is poisonous!

In short, the pioneering innovation from Minolta, the good successor Sony with strong R&D, the powerful G lenses (although I still don't have any), the famous CZ (even more difficult for me to have), the not so proud brand attitude, and the brotherhood here, make me stay as an A-mount user.

Hoping more people can share their experiences here, especially all the lao-jiao one.

For me, I was introduce to Zeiss when I joined Contax club in 1982. Was using Contax and Zeiss happily. When Contax has no more DSLR, went over to Canon as it can use the Contax Zeiss lenses. But can never get sharp and colourful 3D pictures.
All these while I like Sony. Have a few video camera and PNS by Sony. Like the style, handling and pictures as it is using Zeiss. When heard Sony is going into DSLR market, was looking forward to it as Sony will bring Zeiss in. Surprise they bought Konica-Minolta. Was thinking they will buy Nikon as they are talking with them.
Anyway, still want to stick to Canon as their sensor was better then. Even Sony has the A100. Was not impressed with it and the price.
When A700 came out, almost every day see a Bus with Sony advertisement. During Nov 2007 Imaging-Expo, was helping Tamron in the exhibition. Met Simon and many Alpha bros. Tried out all the camera system with Tamron lenses. Also reminded by my friend "Digital Sensor needs Digital lenses". Was impressed by the SSS that I can use any lenses on Sony bodies. Need not to pay extra for IS or VR. Also Sony has an offer for A700 and CZ 16-80 then. Thus, started by journey into Sony with A700 and now A300 plus a few Zeiss lenses. When I got my A700 and CZ 16-80, it is like my good old days with Contax and Zeiss; i.e. I can be creative again....Just wish I have more time to join all you bros/sis.

For me, i think i was influenced by my dad? He used a Minolta SRT Super back then. then, i was using all sorts of compact cameras, vivitar, Rollei etc, and moved to a semi pro. the Minolta Dimage A1, Later, the sensor got problem so Konica Minolta changed the camera with a new one, the Dimage A200 for free. Getting a bit hands itchy and feel for a better camera, i went on to source for my first DSLR. so the story went on and on.
till now, the 7D is with me

well for me it was know as konica minolta back then....
i didn't knw anything abt brands like canon, nikon, pentax and olympus..it wasn't even my intent to buy
any in the first place....was happily shooting away with my lumix fz-1 back then.

Then come the announcement of the konica minolta 5D.....it got everyone excited as it is the 2nd camera to come out after the km7d with Anti-shake capability. It was a natural progression for me to choose one with the similar technology as my panny o.i.s (opitical image stabilizer) ....then come the fateful day.... in 2005 or isszit 2004? the october sitex show. i was at different booths trying out various brands when at the km booth... while testing out the gear...the saleman bombard me with extra cf card, additional zoom lens 75-300mm and one additional local warranty at less than the rrp....so subconciously.... i just bought into the system just like that..hahaha
same begining... i guess we had met the same salesman. :mymistake:

Well, I choose alpha because Alpha 100 was the cheapest among the camera body..since I bought it..somehow I got stuck with it..haha..so in the end..bought A700 and sold off A100..by then, I have the flash and some lenses so to change it seems like wasteful..

in addition..i like that it got SSS, accessible repair place, plus its a Sony. Can't go wrong with sony.

Beauty lies in the eyes of its beholder
for me...started during sec sch days with a nikon..thks to my tch that time..allowing me to use his film cam..from there..i got myself a film cheap minolta pns...then everthing stood still...started again with sony f707 during my poly days..went f717 ..the f828...R1 was really tempting but say to myself ..needed a dslr..was tempted to get a canon 10/20D ..so waiting till weekend for a free time to get it...but that saturday..was reading the sat straits times..saw a biggggggg page on sony a100 ..looking at the specs..kinda like it..so went to sony IMM n booked myself a set ...was happy with it but soon both the kit lenses simply cannot make it..sold it within 2 weeks..got a 24-85mm as my kit instead..love that lens..soon..i was buying all sorts of lenses..got myself a 80l dricab ..at one time i had over 16 lenses in all..but slowly sold them..n made a resolution that my lenses will always b f4 and below..except for 300mm n above f5.6 will be reasonable..

finally ..i settled for these lenses ...28-75f2.8 ..beercan ..told myself these 2 will be enough ..needed a prime lens..to an 85mm will be good enough..promised myself ..get a 85mmG N THATS IT ...!! ..in the end...haizzz...end up with G collection...so sad hor ...:P
Think a new system...
