I had a Canon film camera with two kit lenses. Entry level, so-so quality, only shoot when there's family vacations, nothing much. Digital era, I used a Olympus C-5050Z, a solid compact camera - still using it from time to time. The thing I don't like is the shutter lag, it was not very responsive. Started looking for a DSLR, Canon was first choice but realized how small 400D is...I have a bigger hand. Nikon was out of my reach at that time ... If I didn't buy A100, I could be buying D700 now Anyway, A100 feel right in my hand, solid than Canon 400D, more generous to build anti-shake in body, instead of lens. Still think this is great advantage over C|N. It sounds funny but I told my other friend the reason I bought a Sony was its marketing! Indeed, I saw Sony organized Alpha experience outing, so joined the event led by Julian. Used the camera for 1 day and hooked up with Alpha since then. |

It's probably fate... I could have been easily a C/N/O/P shooter. My dad bought an A100... and I ended up using it.

haha, chaoxangel. i am similar to u. my dad was a minolta user, 8000i, 9xi, till he gave up the hobby for a very long time. he kept all his lenses n body. till the release of A100. he went to buy it, but after shooting a few times. also stop. guess he lost interest in photography, (especially with dslr, well he is happy wif his prosumer). so one fine day, i say, y not i take over the cam. then there on, i got my 1st dslr for free. but servicing all the lenses does cost abit. then followed by getting 2 tamron lenses. all in all. At that time, i din really compare between N or C. but till recently, i guess sony's grip is still the best for me. i have big hands, haha, need big grip. C40D just too tiny. lol |

haha for my case.. was shooting all the while with PnS (FujiFilm then Casio) for normal friends/family outings and some of candids.. when i took up photography module in the 3rd year on my poly, has deeply poisoned by how creative and fun can photography be by using a DSLR.. was using the Mini Me Canon 350D in school (the module chair was a Canon fan), so from that time onwards I promised myself that I will get an DSLR.. someday in November, came across Sony End of Year Sale booklet (always love to read Sony's booklet) and saw this A100 with kit lens offering at $1199.. well i thought, actually owning a DSLR was not a dream (it was cheaper than what I thought a DSLR would be).. so i start to do research on DSLR, ended up with 2 DSLRs that were Canon 400D and Nikon D40x.. so start to hunt for good deal for these 2 DSLRs.. came by CP, asked to test the 2 DSLRs, soon D40x was kicked one as there are NO AF Motor in body (what the hell!?), and was about to settle my mind on an Cann 400D.. that sales uncle asked.. Why not Sony? I think.. S O N Y ? had always tempted by their gadgets but had not buy any as they are so expensive.. before i even responded, he took out a A100 with kit lands and stuff it to me.. after holding it on hand, suddenly there is a magic telling me to get it.. mainly because of.. - body built of A100 - 2 lenses covering from 18 ~ 300 at $1399 (i bought this.. hais..) - SSS - Duct Cleaning (i was like WOW! but after using for sometime i find it actually no big deal =p) - most importantly MINOLTA TECHNOLOGY! got it! happy.. but 2 months later, A200 launch, another month later A350 launch.. was so depressed and eventually i sold my A100 and get A700.. a damn happy SONY user now! |

well, for me it was always sony ... PnS camera (P200),Home theatre, TV, Handycam, Walkman etc. Purchased a Minolta Film camera when i came to singapore (why Minolta, just liked the name), didn't had any idea on basics of SLR or DSLR, but was dreaming of getting one DSLR for 2 years, at last in last year's comex show, bought the A100 (sony + minolta, nothing else came into my mind), just purchased it. Now I am with this alpha family, with the help of all the gurus here learning a lot about DSLR and photography
