i'll throw myself in the fray for this but i find that more importantly, it's the man behind the camera (whether it's PNS or DSLR or even MF/LF). Mdmzr mentioned about mastering DOF, lighting & composition. I assume he meant it thereotically and technically. My opinion is that it takes more than sound technical knowledge to be a good photographer - personal skillsets such as communication skills, assertiveness, decisiveness, patience, resourceful, dedication etc also contribution largely to the making of a good photographer. If a photographer posseses such traits & technical knowledge, then it doesnt matter if its a PNS or DSLR. Riding on ChaoxAngel's comment about: Does a DSLR make a "better photographer" is technically different from: Does a DSLR make "better photography" you will noticed that the element that is consistent in the 2 statements is the DSLR and the difference is in the person. A good photographer would be able to master his DSLR to take command of the environment to produce better photography. Joho wrote this article - From A Photographer's Heart - where he spoke about being human first, then a photographer. Perhaps it would go some way in contributing to this overflogged horse of a discussion topic.

DSLR, SLR, LR, R, watever it is, these are all just tools. Man makes the tool work for him and not the other way around. |
