Bros.. had a random thought today after a friend brought up the issue.. For all those familiar with the national stadium.. what kinda hardware do you think it would take.. to shoot pitch action on a night game in the national stadium either :-
1. sitting in the stands front row.. ( i'm assuming this would be a 500mm at least..)
2. pitch side.. ( assuming can pull string and get a spot with the press shooters)

your thoughts.. with the brazil olympic squad coming buy.. a friend of mine brought up the issue of actually shooting this match..

Only shoot once from the stand area.

1. sitting in stands front row.... My guess is 300mm f2.8 for wide shot. for closer shot you will need 300mm f2.8 + 1.4x TC or even 2xTC if you can use higher ISO and don't mind the ISO noise.

2. For pitch side. Again I will go for 300mm f2.8 + 70-200 f2.8 for flexibility.

National Stadium? It was a long time ago, before I have 400mm. I tried with 300mm f4 with 1.4tc. Sitting front row at east gallery national stadium. Good shots..

Can even shoot friends sitting across at west side! There were 2 games that day: one before spotlight on and one at night with spotlight.

The soccer shoot, it was working well.. until, it hit evening time with spot lights on, I cannot get enough shutter speed to shoot decent picture. Had to remove TC and still struggled with F4.

OK, given that time I was still using A100, dare not push too high iso. A700 can be different story. Should try again one of these days with A700+400mm.

The last time I tried 400mm for soccer was for Galdor's sport's day. It was all afternoon shoot. Can shoot from behind seating gallery with lens on tripod. Pitch side line.. too close unless u planning to get close action shots. Did some on edge of track and field (away from the field).

Shooting from gallery, 300mm or 400mm will be nice. Shooting from edge of field anything less than 300mm.

Get as wide lens as you can for night shoot! Otherwise just leave your cam at home but bring a pns shoot video :knock:

Some of the shots from Galdor's sport event:
Note: Side view shot is from edge of running track, further away from field. Top view cropped shot from 3rd floor building, some from back of seating gallery.
