![]() He is one of us. Photo-Album Theme: Competition Winning Photos Alphadslr Nick: d4nie Real name (optional): Danie Year in photography: 5 Camera: Sony A700, A100 (IR), V3 Lenses: Some Minolta and Sony lenses. Personal website: d4nie.smugmug.com I would like to thank the Admin and Moderator team for running this wonderful forum and also giving me a chance to share my photos. I started to take photography as a hobby about 5 years ago when I got my first prosumer camera, which was Sony V1. A nice little camera with lots of manual control. After about a year and found the limitation of V1, I upgraded to Sony V3, which was the successor of V1. When I started the hobby, my favorite subject was night cityscape. As time goes along, now I mostly shoot Landscape, People (street), Infrared and of course Family snapshot ![]() My first photo competition was Sony Photo Challenge 2005. I won the first prize in Nature category. It was also the first time I met Julian W. as he was the judge for the competition. With the prize that I got from the competition, I decided to get my first DSLR. After discussion with some friends, I decided to get Konica Minolta 5D (mainly due to antishake feature) and my journey with Minolta begins. To my surprise, few months later, KM was bought over by Sony, so I’m back as a Sony user again ![]() One of the reasons why I like to join a photo competition is to challenge myself to shoot according to a theme and try to interpret the theme. Of course the other reason to join a photo competition is the prize ![]() As the admin wants me to share some photos from competitions that I’ve won, here are some of them: Sony Photo Challenge 2005 – Nature – 1st prize Camera: Sony V3 ![]() Montage 2006 – Behind the seen – Merit prize Camera: KM 5D + Minolta 50mm (cannot remember whether it was 50mm f1.4 or f1.7) ![]() Community Click 2006 (Boon Lay) – Our HDB, our spaces our places – 1st prize Camera: Sony A100 + KM 28-75mm f2.8 ![]() Canon Photo Marathon 2006 – Power, simply red – 2nd prize Camera: Sony A100 + KM 28-75mm f2.8 ![]() NParks Garden festival 2006 – Favorite activity in park – 1st and 3rd prize 1st prize Camera: Sony A100 + KM 28-75mm f2.8 ![]() 3rd prize Camera: Sony V3 ![]() Microsoft PhotoVista 2007 – Singapore vista – Celebrated (2nd) prize – 2 photos Camera: Sony A100 + Sony kit lens (18-70mm) ![]() ![]() Fathering moment 2007 – Merit prize Camera: Sony A100 + Sony kit lens (18-70mm) ![]() Singapore My Home 2008 – Distinction prize Sony A100 + CZ 16-80mm ![]() AlphaDSLR 2008 – Seeing Number - Winner Camera: Sony A700 + CZ 16-80mm ![]() A similar photo, but taken using my mobile phone, won the 1st prize in Starhub - Numbers Go Green photo competition few months ago. An advice to those who want to try photo competition, do not feel limited by the camera or lens that you have. As you can see in the above photos, most of my winning photos are not taken with a very expensive lens. Another thing that I observed is that most of my photos that won in a competition were shot purposely for the competition (after I know the theme). I did join some competition by submitting some photos which were taken before a competition, but most of the time I didn’t win. So, I believe that you have to take the competition seriously if you want to win ![]() OK, that’s all Bros… Hope you enjoy the photos… Happy shooting!!! Edited by Invision, Dec 7 2008, 08:37 AM.

Your work is almost instantaneously recognisable. Especially love your travel series and I don't really know why but the 5th picture in your Central Java & Yogya series really left an impression and still rates as the best I've seen here. And thanks to those pictures, I want to visit those parts of Indonesia next year. |
