Really no best combi, rather is what I want to get most of the trip.

7D with VG + 12-24 + 24-70 are always in my bag! The rest really depends.

Really hope to replace my 7D with A900 or A7XX (with live view).

As lightest gear as possible for holiday trip. I go there for enjoying my trip and don't want to burden myself carrying heavy stuff. Probably my ideal gear right now is my pre-war Leica IId + 50mm + 35mm lens. There's no battery included for this cam so no worries about battery getting flat. For film wise, some country selling much more cheaper and also so many variety of film to choose. Totally no worries.

Unless I have to go for job assignment. That is no choice. Have to go along with heavy gear. Normally for me is wide angle & 50mm lens. I'm more to Architectural & Landscape shoots which also apply to my Architectural trade.

Recent trip, I took A700 with VG, 11-18, 28-75, 200. City sight seeing 11-18 turn out to be very useful.
Haha.. no more 400 this time.

Should have brought a macro lens for the garden shoots.
VG is a mistake.. not really necessary haha..

No flash, but it will be good if something can be improvised for the built-in flash which that caused dark shadow patches because from the huge 72mm filter size of 11-18..

To be frank, it was really tough walking with backpack (clothing+laptop) and a camera bag. Because I went different cities in short time, I do not have liberty of staying in same hotel so that means I carry my bags each time I checked out.
