Think this is good overall for all camps.... each pressuring the other to maintain competitive pricing. Those resisting to be the early adopters will likely emerge as prudent winners. Edited by simon, Sep 17 2008, 04:35 PM.

Wow... very nice... Well, 5D II has effectively pulled the carpet from under the 1DSmk III... oh well, just a matter of time before they release an even higher MPX FF flagship. ![]() With the 1DSMK3 and A900 comparable (even with pre-production shots), with the A900 slightly edging out the resolution of the 1DSMK3, and I think 5D II will yield the same results, only that the 5D II will be slightly cleaner in noise. Hmm... I actually like to see both Live View and HD video recording on a Sony DSLR though. Yes, these are gadgetry, but they are helpful to some, HD video recording is really good for people who cannot afford to have a sophisticated HD video cam with an interchangeable lens system. One of the advantages about being able to record video with the camera is that, you can really make use of those unique lenses. I do expect in the future, Sony will come out with models with AF LV and AF HD Video... most probably - sony's a350 and a300 successors... They should have both the springy fast LV AF, and *AF* HD video recording (goes well with Bravia HD TVs... ) - they *MUST* gadget up with bells and whistles, unless they want to lose out... ![]() Given the smart implementation of Live View for the A350 and A300, I am quite very sure, that future Sony offerings will outsmart the "comparatively clumsy implementations" of the other manufacturers. Now is the time to wait and see. ![]() The DSLR business has never been so exciting before, well at least to me - with the entry of Sony, everyone's scrambling to implement more and more features and advance sensor and imaging technology at a breakneck speed in order to outsell each other. Competition is a good thing for the consumers. |

On a more serious notes... when A700 launched, Canon launched a smaller megapixel sensor camera with lower price.. and they managed to keep all Canon users.. Now, for A900.. they launched 5D II with lower sensor megapixel and lower pricing again. Maybe, SONY needs to adjust their price to match (or lower) Canon to capture more Canon users.. |

Bro, wait till you experience the joys of video production... ![]() I'm just waiting for a HD video capable body to come out, so I can use all the existing funky big lenses to maximum effect... Think about it: Julian would no longer be only taking photos on his safari assignments, he can readily switch to taking wildlife movies as well with a Sony HD video capable DSLR and the future 600mm SSM F4 and Teleconverter while taking his photos half way... Wedding photographers and studios can split their jobs into video and photos with all their existing lenses and equipment, simplifying their inventory, by using the same Fish eyes, wide angles, fast lenses, long zooms they have for their DSLRs. Large and Fast lenses with shallow DOF can give a striking effect that would send ambitious budget video producers jumping for joy; Large, sensitive and powerful sensors enable *AVAILABLE LIGHT* video recording even in dark places, enabling creative directors to do away with the video light for dramatic effects... (you'd probably have to find those cameras with 3 x 1/3 or 1/2 inch CCD / CMOS sensors, which would typically set you back by US$5k and a lot more inventory) The advantages of Large Sensor DSLR HD Video in Low light is already well demonstrated by the Nikon D90... These are just some of the things that can exceed what many if not most small consumer handycams can achieve by far. Video recording systems that have interchangeable lenses and large sensors costs a ton of money, usually at the rung of the most expensive 35mm DSLR camera systems and usually, much higher. So having something that offers you a slice of the experience for the price of a DSLR is certainly very attractive for any photographer who... wishes to increase his repertoire of services that can be offered to his customers without radically expanding his inventory, or even the eager amateur who sometimes just wanna be a cinematographer. Sony (and Panasonic as well with the very promising looking micro 4/3s system) with all the professional broadcast/cinema/production prowess, is very capable of turning their DSLR bodies into HD Video cams with all the bells and whistles you expect from a professional Video Recording system (with all the AF and etc... etc...). It's only how far they are willing to take it. I expect Sony, with all her experience, will take a much different path from Canon and Nikon in their implementation (they used a subsystem that would tackle Live View real time), and if they do, it should be more effective... *crosses fingers* |
