Not sure if anyone if you have seen the poster of this year yellow ribbon project. The poster shows the back of a tattooed man with a sticky-note written "ex-convict". The man has the action of attempting to reach and remove the sticky-note! The way I interpret this ad is > man with tattoo are bad guys! Isn't that stereotype! If the organization/advertiser want us to look beyond ex-convict, there should be a better way of doing it! For us to accept ex-convict, we should look beyond their looks and their tattoo and their past. I just find the ad too "shallow" for me! The society already has problem accepting ex-convict...what now...we will have problem accepting people with tattoos? Edited by Mr.Oink, Sep 18 2008, 11:46 AM.

haha..i understd. sometimes as media designer, we have to look far beyond meanings and get the best "design" to potray what we want people to see/understd/feel. Similar to photograhy, every designer has his own interpretations of how ex-convicts/bad guys appear in his minds. it is quite shallow if you ponder for a moment, but hey, majority of the badguys/exconvicts has tattoos dont they? lol but seriously, the society needs to change, ex-convicts shud really be given a 2nd chance. Only when they blew that 2nd chance, we can judge them. Not for merely what they did in their past lives. I'm just sad for this people.. coz i got someone related in this situation, so i really feel the impact that is affecting him. but what can we do, right? |

Now..that above statement is stereotype! mauah....okay..anyway I don't have tattoos! A campaign is design to educate public, and campaign runs for years! You can slowly see the impact it have on people soon. |

i share your sentiments bro. but sadly social stereotyping is a norm. now imagine the guy w/o tattoos - would ppl then focus on his race or the colour of his skin? there's no end to it. they may have done a better ad with a whole lot of men instead of just one. |
