![]() He is one of us. Alphadslr Nick: DOC (docdeng) Real name: Isais Florante Santos Years in photography: Two years Camera: A700 Lenses: SAL 18-200, SAL 100mm macro, CZ 16-80, CZ 24-70, CZ 135 Favorite lens: CZ 135 Motto for photography: It's not the science of technology but the essence of the art that makes photography fascinating. Personal website: none (CMI) ![]() PHOTOSYNTHESIS - My journey in photography through the years with Alpha Photo means light Synthesis means to combine or a collection The Beginning. I initially started with a point and shoot camera (Panasonic) in December 2006. Then after doing some self-study about photography with books, I made the big leap to a DSLR camera. The triggering factor was my 1st trip to Japan. I got my 1st DSLR (Sony alpha 100) in Osaka on December 28, 2006. I upgraded to Alpha 700 on May 2008 after being “poisoned” in Cambodia. March 15, 2007 marked the day when I first joined the Alpha Family. It was the first photography outing I joined which was organized by bro Shadow. The Passion. I never knew that I would get deeply engrossed with this hobby. My inspirations are drawn from the works/books of other photographers. One can achieve taking great photos by mastering your gears and craft. Having said this, I still consider myself a newbie with a long way to go. Every photo I take is a part of my continuing learning process. The person who has the biggest influence on me in Photography is my good friend and sifu Julian W. I also found my “home” here in our forum. You get to meet different people bonded by the same passion. The Dream. I have always wanted to have my work(s) published someday. On June 2007 my photo (Happy Feet) was published in Photovideoi Magazine. The following month, I was the featured photographer. The Journey. So dear friends (bros and sis) allow me to take you to my journey with my Alpha. These three photos were taken when I was still a neophyte in photography. I only knew P mode then. ![]() The Little Emperor Taken in Japan December 2006 with Panasonic PNS. I went there with my PNS but I left the place with my Alpha 100. ![]() Ohayou Gozaimasu One of my first photos with my A100. I like the contrast of the blue winter sky against the silhouette of the imposing window. ![]() One Way My most favorite photo. Taken in Punggol 13/5/07 1:37 p.m. My sifu taught me to see things differently. “Same same but different.” To reinforce my craft, I took some lessons. ![]() Christmas Silhouette This photo won me the first prize in SDW Xmas Lighting Photo Workshop 2007. Julian W challenged us to do something different. I composed this photo with three layers in it (the blue lights, shadows of trees, and golden lights). My prize – the Black Book of Poison (Sony Lenses Book) Macro was my first interest in Photography. My second lens was the SAL 100 mm macro. Here are some of my old works. ![]() Taming the Dragon One of my friends in another forum told me this peculiar obelisk position of dragonflies at noon. ![]() La Amour Trying something different in macro with flash back lighting for a different mood. There and Back again. In November 2007 I went back for an autumn retreat in Japan. This time I’m no longer using the P mode. ![]() Sunset at the Station Taken in Tokyo Dineyland. ![]() Autumn Sonata I had this picture in my mind of autumn leaves before I went there. Then I found a patch of mapple trees in a small unassuming park. Beautifull backlighting by the afternoon sun. ![]() Dandelion Dream You can never tell when you wanna do macro. I even brought my macro lens in Japan Cambodia. On 27-30th March 2008, I was one of the fifteen participants in the SDW Cambodia Photo Adventure This trip was the turning point of my journey in photography. ![]() Happy Feet My first published photo (Photovideoi June 2007) While the schoolchildren were lined up to receive their school supplies, I glanced upon this row of bare feet with nice shadows. ![]() Peeping Thom Taken in Angkor Thom. Bro soulexpress caught me how I took the above photo. ![]() ![]() The Hand That Soweth I saw this monk in Bayon Temple. Instead of taking the face I was drawn by the shimmer of light at the edge of his cinnabar robe and how he gently clutches it. ![]() Ta Phrom Tomb Raider Temple. Taken with a tripod late in the afternoon. After my Cambodia trip, somehow I lost interest in macro and moved on to bigger things. ![]() Unison ![]() See No Evil ![]() Hear No Evil As the cliché goes: A photograph speaks a thousand words. I like to tell stories with my photos. Every photo I take has a meaning to me in some way or another. An alpha moment if I may say so. MOMENTS Here are some my favorite Alpha moments. At times I was just lucky to be in the right place at the right time. ![]() The Shepherd Taken with CZ 85 during SDW Xmas Lighting Workshop 2007. My baptism with a prime CZ lens. ![]() Two by Two Taken while I was inside a moving bus in Cambodia. The power of CZ 135. Added a bit of dreamy effect. ![]() Water Fun One of my first shots with my CZ 135. ![]() The Joy of Giving One of my fave fotos in my Cambodia trip. ![]() Nathan Road Taken in HK when I bought my A700. While bros CjNg and Peter are buying friendly version DVDs I went out in the street. I focussed on the street sign and waited for a bus to pass by and got a passerby as bonus. ![]() Over the Rainbow Just one of those lucky days when you happen to see a rainbow. The Next Frontier. I am still growing in my photography. Now I wanna try fashion & portraiture. ![]() Anticipation Wedding of my good friend. ![]() Jaslyn My first studio shoot with SDW. (Sorry I did not PP the skin. )That’s it for now. Thanks for taking the journey with me. To our newbies here; No matter what gear you use, enjoy photography, and capture the MOMENT! ![]() Let us all continue to see, shoot, and share. Edited by Invision, Nov 25 2008, 09:34 PM.
