Hand on a D700 earlier today to gauge the performance of A900 nearest rival.
Must said i damn impressed with the D700.
if u do not required big printout. D700 is a terrific camera for general shooting.
Fast Af and good noise ctrl, 1st impression ..it faster in af and locking target than A900...it ready to fire even before u see the af confirmation..shutter lag is non -existence....c-af is also very accurate

I think the most eye catching part in this topic is not the photos of the performers , its the D700 you are using . Really good ah ?

yes at the current price/peformance ratio..it a very good camera.
it a much better event camera than A900 if u talking abt speed
however, for focusing on difficult low/lack of contrast area....our alpha A700/A900 will beat them...that if u using the centre af.....
and them..i'm referring to the nikon D300 and canon 1DmkIIn...didn't test out the D700 and D3 yet...but base on past experience.... i reckon the D700 and D3 most probably be having problem focusing on the low/lack of contrast area..etc..white wall /table.

The current Alpha semi-level dslr is slower in aquiring af locking in low lighting as compare to the competitors..especially the problem is low light with af tracking continously. daytime should be on par or better..

In this Aspect A900 is better than A700
sensor wise... A900 resolve detail better than A700.
Cheapo lens now perform like CZ and G lens in term of detail...based on the samples from minolta 24-105mm f3.5-4.5....
while D700 is able to nail every single actions with ease...the amt of detail it able pull off can hardly match the A900 if u need tight cropping.
