14Jan 2009 - This date mark the day me and Peter (Soulexpress) embark ourselves onto a series of photography projects. Project of producing images of a very 'Singapore' aspect of life. We spearheaded this sometime late last year, wanting to capture images that are pretty much 'preserving history' before they are GONE.

Our first series, 一房半厅. So what is 一房半厅? Well, to those who are born in the pre 70s, they probably will know. Me being a 70s baby, have visited such unit before while my old grand aunt was still around. Every CNY without fail, our family will visit her and she stayed in such unit. Basically its a HDB flat unit that only consist of a room and half a living hall, combine into one bigger room, connected to a small kitchen (which is 1/3 of the current HDB kitchen size) and a very small toilet. There are only 2 windows, all facing one side of the unit. You wont see any windows along the small narrow corridor.

Who stays in such unit, you may ask. Well, its mainly those old folks whose children might have prob left them, the poor, etc. We do see a lot of old folks around the estate.

We chance upon an occupied unit, so bear, that there is only a chair, a calender, a small little TV and some shirts hanging at the kitchen. Not even a bed in sight.

One our way home, this sight ponder over me. Is this guy going to sleep on the floor? Will he be cold? But no matter what, its still a place he call HOME.

All shots on Alpha A700 with 16mm FE f2.8 lens.

Not easy to shoot someone's house w/o being seen.
I do have some shots of that in the series.
