For stage events, I prefer the performers bright and the background dark, unless it is necessary as part of the scene. So, for these pics, I find the dancers too dark and the background too bright. However, maybe you are right. I should have reduced ambient and increased flash power but was afraid to get too many hot spots and blowout details of the light coloured costumes.
